Learning Stream Award

A Learning Stream Award is evidence of your commitment to a certain learning stream or skill. Once you have a few activities on your UOWx Record, you may choose to apply for a Learning Stream Award. There are six in total.

Each UOWx recognised activity has up to four learning streams attributed to it. Once you have met the activity requirements for a Learning Stream Award, you can submit your application to UOWx.

These awards are listed on your UOWx Record and enable you to highlight these key skills to a future employer.

If you are graduating in 2023 ...

To ensure your Learning Stream Awards are added to your UOWx Record, you must apply for your Learning Stream Awards by the following dates:

  • Trimester 1 Graduation - apply by 22 May 2023
  • Autumn Graduation - apply by 30 June 2023
  • Trimester 2 Graduation - apply by 18 September 2023
  • Spring & Trimester 3 Graduation - apply by 24 November 2023

What is a Learning Stream?

UOWx has worked alongside employers to identify six main skill categories, or Learning Streams. These streams contribute to a student’s employability skills and ability to be active citizens.

Each UOWx recognised activity contributes to at least two (and up to six) Learning Streams, which allows students greater flexibility when choosing which Learning Stream award to achieve.

The Learning Streams are:

  • Leadership
  • Mentoring & Wellbeing
  • Innovation & Creativity
  • Global & Cultural Awareness
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Community & Social Change

You can filter by one or more 'Learning Streams' when searching for activities.

How do I achieve a Learning Stream award?

Step 1- Get involved!

Complete the minimum hours for any two activities that fall under the same Learning Stream category.

Step 2- Find a workshop or conference

Attend a workshop, conference or seminar that relates to the Learning Stream you are aiming for (minimum of two hours).

Step 3- Apply and reflect

Apply for the Learning Stream award and complete a 200 word reflective piece on your experiences.

To do this, you will need to self-enrol in the UOWx Learning Stream Awards and Interim UOWx Record Moodle site and follow the instructions provided there.

Testimonials

"2022 became my first real opportunity to experience life as uni student and I wanted to know the UOW community more intimately. To do this, I involved myself in multiple UOWx co-curricular activities such as volunteering for the Learning Labs and working as an In2Uni Mentor. Not only have I met so many remarkable people on this journey, but I’ve really been able to immerse myself in the university experience.

By participating in these activities, I discovered my dual passion for helping others and leadership.  Gaining the leadership and communication and collaboration Learning Stream Awards are only a testament of this realisation and really demonstrates how eager I am to continue developing in these areas. Being involved with UOWx will undoubtedly help me in my future endeavours. It is a formal recognition for everything I have accomplished, and I am so grateful for every opportunity that has come my way and the friends that I have made along this journey." - Claudia Curcio, Bachelor of Medical Health Sciences (Honours) (Dean's Scholar)
