FAQs for on-campus exams

The type of exam you have will determine what kind of materials you can access and reference during an exam.

Where reference materials are permitted during an exam, academic misconduct rules still apply.

Exam type Materials permitted

Open Book

All reference materials permitted

  • You can use any reference material during an open book exam.
  • Submit only your own work.
  • Do not discuss the exam with anyone during the exam.
  • Avoid copying directly from textbooks, lecture notes, or other resources. Show your understanding by expressing content in your own words.

Restricted

Only specified materials permitted

  • You may only use the materials listed on your exam timetable
  • Using any other materials may result in Academic Misconduct penalties.

Closed Book

No reference materials permitted

  • You are NOT permitted to access any materials to assist you to complete your exam.
  • Accessing any materials will lead to Academic Misconduct penalties.
