How is this program run?

This program is running both face-to-face and online.


What will I do?

The EIS Student Mentor Program will help you develop your skills in communication, leadership, problem solving while you help and support EIS students during their studies at UOW.

EIS Student Mentors help students navigate the UOW environment by: 

  • Providing advice and helping students to navigate lectures, tutorials and UOW systems.
  • Familiarising students with the Faculty/Schools of EIS, and UOW success and support services.
  • Sharing your knowledge and experience at UOW and answering their questions.
  • Developing their support and friendship networks via organising a variety of social and study sessions.

This program will allow EIS students to feel they have peers to talk to, someone to check in on them, to ask questions and to seek advice from. It will also provide you with the opportunity to share your positive UOW experiences with your mentees and develop a range of communication and cross-cultural skills.

This program will help building your resume and impress potential employers. Upon completion of the program, you will receive a certificate for your CV.

Are there any special requirements for this role?

We are seeking EIS students who:

  • Are passionate about helping fellow students studying in the Faculty of EIS.
  • Have completed at least 3 semesters of study at UOW.
  • Have studied at least 1 semester onshore at Wollongong or Liverpool Campuses.
  • Have a distinction or high credit average.

Minimum requirements for UOWx recognition

1-2 hours per week to connect with your group of students. We understand that your studies have also been greatly impacted and you are being introduced to a new way of learning – we don’t want to overwhelm you.

To receive UOWx recognition, you must complete the following:

  • An "engaged" student will need to be complete 12 hours over a calendar year
  • A "highly engaged" student will need to complete 17 hours over a calendar year
