Celebrating
50 years of UOW

Give to UOW

50 years of impact

In 2025, the University of Wollongong (UOW) celebrates 50 years as an independent institution.

Originally established to provide tertiary education to support the region’s steel industry, the University has since developed into an internationally-recognised teaching and research institution ranked among the top one per cent of universities in the world.

Over five decades, UOW has built a strong reputation for creating a positive impact in our local and global communities. From our first campus on the lands of Five Islands Dreaming, nestled at the foot of Mt Djeera (Keira), we have expanded to nine Australian and four international campuses.

As UOW celebrates 50 years we reflect with pride on five decades of positive impact. Together we’ve made a difference, both locally and globally, embracing excellence and innovation. Thank you for being an important part of our journey.

50 Voices

Launching March 2025

At UOW, we know it is the people who make our story. From the labs to the library, to the lawns, we want to share the unique stories of the people who make UOW what it is.

Hear from staff, students, alumni, volunteers, and community members about how UOW has shaped them, and how they shape UOW.

Looking to the future

It’s UOW’s foundation principles that will see us continue to make real-world impact in teaching and research.

The 50th anniversary will provide an opportunity for alumni, donors and friends to engage more deeply with UOW, change lives and push boundaries.

Your gift will help reduce barriers to education and accelerate real-world impact through research and innovation.
