At UOW we understand that life happens. Academic Consideration is intended to help minimise the impact on your studies of short-term events that are beyond your control (compassionate, compelling or extenuating circumstances).
Through significant consultation with students across UOW, a number of minor changes will be made to Academic Consideration for the beginning of Trimester 1 and Autumn Session. These will include:
- Increased support for students who have experienced three or more adverse events that have impacted their study in a single semester. The University will proactively reach out to students to work together on a range of strategies that can support students to progress in their studies.
- Similar to other universities, students will be able to apply for an extension of time to submit an assessment task; or to undertake a deferred or supplementary exam or test if they have had circumstances that have impacted their studies.
The existing policy of not requiring supporting documentation will continue for Autumn Semester, Trimester 1 and Trimester 2, we will be launching a new Academic Consideration submission form in Spring Semester and Trimester 3, and the need for supporting documentation will return at this time.
