GWP 900: International Workplace Practice

GWP 900 is designed to meet the employment aspirations of international students to undertake work in Australia. A 10-week series of educational seminars and practical job seeking activities, the subject will maximise students' potential to access workplace experiences and post university employment options.

Students will acquire and develop job search skills and career management strategies; examine theories of intercultural competence, as well as develop cultural awareness and business communication skills that are fit-for-purpose regardless of students' career aspirations.

What will you learn

This subject has been designed to help international students from the Faculty of Business and Law gain the knowledge and confidence to find work in Australia, by developing:

  • knowledge of how to effectively analyse and respond to job advertisements
  • a professional, evidence-based resume and cover letter
  • effective job interview skills
  • a clear understanding of the recruitment process and how to find the job you want
  • an understanding of Australian workplace culture and professional expectations

Eligibility

GWP 900 is a postgraduate elective subject and will be available to international students who meet the criteria:

  • Studying at either Wollongong Campus or Sydney CBD Campus
  • Undertaking a Masters degree (12 or 16 subjects) in the Faculty of Business and Law where GWP900 is an approved elective.
  • At the time of enrolment in GWP 900, have completed minimum 36 credit points of their Masters degree.
  • Eligible to work in Australia while studying at UOW
  • Enrolled in one of the following courses:
