Casual exam positions
University of Wollongong casual exam staff at the Wollongong campus are required to support all aspects related to the administration of centrally conducted student exams. Exam Supervisors are paid at a Casual Rate 2.
There are several distinct teams of casual staff supporting students in exams:
- ON CAMPUS MAIN COHORT TEAM: Supporting students in face-to-face exams. Setting up, monitoring and setting down of exam sessions in accordance with procedure, keeping exam materials secure, reporting instances of misconduct and escorting students during the exam as required.
- ON CAMPUS ACCESS PLAN TEAM: Supporting Access Plan students in face-to-face exams. Supervising both private and group access plan students, setting up exams following student requirements, observing and packing down of exam sessions in accordance with procedure, securing all exam items, reporting instances of misconduct and supporting students with general advice and escalating any arising issues.
The On Campus Access Plan Supervisors are responsible for supporting students with an Access Plan in face-to-face exams. Supervising both private and group exams, setting up exams in-line with student requirements and UOW examination processes, observing and packing down of exam sessions in accordance with procedure, securing all exam items, reporting instances of misconduct and supporting students with general advice and escalating any arising issues. - SUPPORT TEAM: Supporting students in online exams. Answering calls from students in a call centre on campus while they are taking their online exams, supporting them with general advice on technical and administrative matters and escalating calls when required.
- ONLINE TEAM: Reviewing reports from online exams. Reviewing reports on campus produced from recordings of online exams, performing identity checks, focusing on flagged irregular activity and assessing whether that activity could be academic misconduct.
Skills and experience required
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Personal sensitivity and the ability to deliver high quality service in a stressful environment
- Being reliable and punctual for rostered shifts.
- Highly observant with excellent attention to detail.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking may be required.
- Flexibility and adaptability to an ever-changing, complex service environment.
- Communication skills to be able to effectively communicate to ensure outstanding student experience, especially with students who may be in distress.
- Computer literacy skills – ideally you will be familiar with UOW student platforms (SMP, Moodle), however training will be provided on these platforms if required.
- Desirable but not required: Experience in supporting students with accommodations due to medical conditions, injuries, or disabilities.
Requirements
This role will require you to:
- Complete Training: you will be required to complete a training session at the University of Wollongong campus.
- Be an Australian Citizen or hold a work visa.
- Be 18 years or older, and not currently sitting a UOW undergraduate Degree.
- Be available for both evening shifts and Saturday shifts, however majority of shifts are Monday – Friday 8.30 am – 5.30 pm.
Work conditions
Most work will be available during the Autumn (June) and Spring (November) exam events, but there will be opportunities for work throughout the year. See Exam Key Dates for details on the exam events.
All work will be undertaken on the Wollongong campus.
