Permit parking

Virtual parking permits (vPermit)

Parking permits are available via UOW's online parking permit management system (vPermit).  vPermits are available on the Wollongong campus, Innovation campus and at student accommodation residences.

vPermit allows eligible people to apply for and manage their parking permits online. If you do not have a vPermit, please ensure you have an alternative paid parking method such as an active CellOPark session or a valid ticket

Permit types

There are many different types of permits, depending on the user and their eligibility. Please click on the relevant link:

Please ensure you are aware where your permit is valid, check you have parked in the correct area and read signposted parking conditions.

How it works

When you apply for a vPermit, you can register multiple vehicle licence plate (registration) numbers.

If you park a different car that day, you can switch between licence plate numbers.  If you enter multiple vehicle licence plates, you can only have one of these vehicles selected as 'Active' at any time (i.e. only one vehicle can be parked at any time using that permit).

It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle licence plate number you have selected as ‘Active’ in vPermit matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.

Your vehicle licence plate may be checked by UOW Security when you are parked on campus or at UOW student accommodation residences.  If you do not have the correct vehicle selected as 'Active' you could receive a fine.

Changes to parking fees from 1 January

Parking fees will increase from 1 January 2025 across the Wollongong and Innovation campuses.Fees will increase by approximately 5% in 2025, followed by an annual increase thereafter in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The increase applies for all parking types including permits, pay and display tickets and CellOPark app payments.

Terms of use

Cancelling your permit

Permits can be cancelled by the user at any time via the vPermit system. Simply select the permit from the My Permits tab and select Cancel. The cancellation request is date and time stamped. It is up to the individual to re-apply if needed to ensure they have an active permit when parked on site.  Please note that any fees paid are not refundable nor the remaining balance refunded.

Refunds

Unfortunately, refunds are not available. Please ensure you choose your permit carefully and consider what parking option best suits your needs. Your permit may be cancelled by UOW if you are no longer eligible to hold it (for example, if you are no longer living in residence, no longer hold a lease or have a valid salary deduction in place).

Transferring your vPermit between vehicles

You can list several different vehicle registrations and easily nominate which car you're in (your active vehicle) when you drive to campus. Please note only one vehicle may be parked on the campus using that permit.

You can view and manage the vehicles against an active permit by clicking the Manage Vehicles button on the My Permits screen. It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle registration you have selected as Active matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.

Renewing a permit

If your permit is nearing its expiry date, you can reapply via the vPermit system. You will receive a system generated email in the days leading up to the expiry.  If you reapply and have your permit approved, you can queue the next permit ready to commence once the current one is no longer valid.

Staff permits

UOW offers two types of parking permits for eligible staff:

  • UOW Entry Permit - allows access to general staff permit areas (spaces are not guaranteed)
  • Reserved Parking Permit - allows access to a single dedicated parking space

Staff ineligible for a permit can use CellOPark for casual parking

Applications for vPermits are available online via the vPermit websitePlease note you can only have one vPermit.  If you need to change your vPermit type, you will need to cancel your current permit and reapply for the new type.  If you have selected a permit paid via credit card, you will not be able to purchase a new permit until the current permit has expired.

UOW Entry Permits

The following groups of people are eligible for a UOW Entry Permit:

  • UOW, UOW Pulse, UOW Global Enterprises (GE) and UOW College staff employed on a fixed term or continuing/permanent basis.
  • Casual UOW, UOW Pulse, UOW GE and UOW College employees who are not also students, where rostered employment is anticipated to be more than 20 hours per week (a letter confirming a commitment of hours may be required).

UOW Entry Permits are only available for staff and are not able to be issued to students, iC commercial tenants, or casuals employed by UOW Pulse tenants.  UOW Pulse retail tenants are eligible to access contractor permits, but limitations apply. UOW Pulse tenants may apply for a maximum of two permits per tenancy.

Reserved Staff Permits

The following groups of people are eligible for a Reserved Staff Permit:

  • UOW, UOW Pulse, UOW Global Enterprises (GE) and UOW College staff employed on a fixed term or continuing/permanent basis.

UOW Entry Permits

There are two payment methods available for staff UOW Entry permits:

  • Eligible staff can choose to pay for their permit via ongoing fortnightly payroll deductions; or
  • pay the full cost of the permit upfront.

The payment method will be specified based on the permit selected.  Where a staff member is eligible, payment can be made through salary deductions.  Your permit is valid from the date of purchase and remains active until it is cancelled by the user (in the case of ongoing salary sacrificed permits).

If staff are not eligible or choose not to salary sacrifice, payment can be made by credit card.  Permits paid via credit card have either a 90, 180 or 365 day validity, selected by the user when choosing their permit option.

Ongoing salary sacrifice

University staff who are eligible may be able to nominate payment via payroll deduction. This is a pre-tax deduction. Deductions are made fortnightly, and are not pro-rata.  If you hold a permit for part of a fortnight, then you will be charged for that fortnight.

If you choose to pay via salary sacrifice, payroll deductions will be set up automatically.

Please note that the salary sacrifice permit deductions are continuous.  You do not need to reapply each year.  Deductions will be continuous until your permit is cancelled by you, or your employment ends (whichever comes first).  It is your responsibility to cease deductions, when necessary, by cancelling your permit.

Upfront payments (credit card)

Upfront payments for vPermits can be paid online through the vPermit system using credit card (Visa or Mastercard only).  Please be aware there is a surcharge on credit card transactions.

If you pay upfront for your parking permit, you will receive two emails:

  • One from vPermit confirming the purchase of your permit, and
  • One from University OneStop (Xetta) with your payment receipt.

Reserved permits

Reserved permits can only be salary sacrificed. Please note the advice above for ongoing salary sacrifice.

Permit status

Please ensure you check the status of your vPermit (on the 'My Permits' page) to ensure it is 'Active'.

Please be aware that some vPermits may require approval from a UOW admin team before they are active.  If you have applied for a permit which requires a credit card payment, the permit is not valid until payment has been made.

If your permit is not yet active (i.e. is waiting for approval from a UOW admin team, or you have applied but have not yet paid, in the case of upfront payment), you need to find alternative parking such as using one of the casual parking areas and pay in accordance with the signposted conditions.

UOW Entry Permits

UOW Entry Permits are valid in designated bays in P2, P3, P4, P5, and P8 on the Wollongong campus.  At the Innovation campus, you can park in the P5 staff carpark.  Please be aware that parking spaces are not guaranteed, even if you have a permit.  Only a Reserved Permit guarantees you a parking space.

Reserved Staff Permits

A limited number of designated reserved parking bays are available on campus for staff. Only authorised reserved permit holders can park in designated reserved bays.

Reserved Permits are issued to a specific carpark.  If you hold a Reserved Permit for the Innovation campus, you can park in your designated bay as well as UOW Entry permit bays on the Wollongong campus. If you hold a Reserved Permit for the Wollongong campus, you can also park in the P5 staff carpark at the Innovation campus.  Reserved permits cannot be used in UOW entry permit bays on the same campus as your reserved permit bay. Fees apply for parking in other permit areas, casual parking areas and the Short-term Parking Station.

In vPermit, you can apply for a reserved parking space in a designated carpark.  The permit name designates for which carpark the permit is valid.

There are reserved staff parking spaces in the following carparks:

  • P1 Carpark
  • Admin Carpark (Building 36)
  • Building 39B Carpark
  • Early Start Carpark (Building 21)
  • Creative Arts Carpark (Building 25)
  • Smart Lane Carpark (Building 6)
  • Building 3 Carpark

Reserved Permit holders are only entitled to park within their designated bay using their permit.

If you hold a Reserved Permit for the Wollongong campus, you can also park in the P5 staff carpark at the Innovation campus.

If you hold a Reserved Permit for the Innovation campus, you can park in your designated bay as well as any UOW Entry permit bays on the Wollongong campus (designated bays of P2, P3, P4, P5 and P8).

Reserved permits cannot be used in UOW entry permit bays on the same campus as your reserved permit bay. Fees apply for parking in other permit areas, casual parking areas and the Short-term Parking Station.

Permits are issued virtually via the vPermit portal – no physical paper or sticker permits will be issued.

Note: you will need to know your vehicle licence plate (registration) number to apply for a permit, and you will need to log in to vPermit and update this if you frequently change cars to drive to UOW.

  1. Enter your vehicle licence plate number/s. You can enter up to three, however only one can be active at any time.
  2. Click ‘next’

Reserved permits

There are waitlists for each reserved carpark. To go on the waitlist, please follow the steps below:

  2. Click the blue button to log in using your UOW email address

Motorcycle permits

Parking for motorcycles is paid. Motorcycles must be parked in designated motorcycle parking bays.

If you are parking on the Wollongong Campus between 8:30am - 6:30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), you must have either a vPermit or have a CellOPark session to park.

Motorcycle vPermits are available to staff, students and UOW Contractors only, but CellOPark is available for anyone to use.

On the Wollongong Campus, motorcycle parking is available in P1, P2, P3 and P5 carparks.  Both P1 and P3 carparks offer undercover motorcycle parking.  You must park in a designated motorcycle space, not a car space.

Parking type Fee (incl. GST)
Annual Permit (vPermit) $60
CellOPark rates $0.10 per hour, maximum $0.80 per day

If you have an active UOW Entry vPermit, you do not need to purchase an additional motorcycle permit. You can add your motorcycle registration as one of your vehicles. If you are parking the motorcycle on campus, you must ensure that the motorcycle registration number is set as the 'Active' vehicle, and park it only in a designated motorcycle bay for your permit to be valid.

Permits are issued virtually via the vPermit portal – no physical paper or sticker permits will be issued.

Note: you will need to know your vehicle licence plate number to apply for a permit, and you will need to log in to vPermit and update this if you change the vehicle parked.

  1. Access the vPermit website (www.vpermit.com.au/uow)
  2. If you are a UOW staff or student, log in using your UOW account details. Please ensure you click the blue button 'Log in with your UOW Account’.
  3. On the ‘My Permits’ tab, click ‘Apply for a vPermit’.
  4. Select the 'Motorcycle permit (credit card)' permit from the pre-filled dropdown menu (only the permits you are eligible for will appear).

Student resident permits

A limited number of parking permits are available to residents for parking at UOW Student Residences. To be eligible for a student resident permit you must be a current resident at a UOW student residence.

Parking permits will be available for purchase via a ballot. You will need to register your interest when you accept your offer of accommodation.

Student resident permits are only valid at your residence (as determined by the permit type), and not at the Wollongong campus. If you need to park at the campus, please refer to parking for students

FAQs

If you have a different vehicle parked on the campus, you need to update your vehicle registration (license plate) in your vPermit account.

Depending on the type of vPermit you have, you may be able to list more than one vehicle on your account.

To change the vehicle registration:

  1. Log in to vPermit - www.vpermit.com.au/uow
  2. Click the 'Manage Vehicles' button
  3. The vehicle with the green Active label is the one that you have currently selected as using the permit (i.e. the 'Active' vehicle). If this is not the vehicle you have parked and you want to change it:
    • If the vehicle registration number is already listed, click 'Activate' next to that registration number
    • If it is not listed, click 'Edit Vehicle(s)', add the new registration number then click 'Save Vehicle(s)'.

It is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle licence plate number you have selected as ‘Active’ in vPermit matches the vehicle you are driving to campus that day for your permit to be valid.  If you do not have the correct vehicle selected as 'Active' you could receive a fine.

Please remember to change this each time you change vehicles.  To manage your vPermit account, you can do so either via a smartphone or PC.  On a smartphone, you can log in via the MyUOW app (in the case of staff), or using your smartphone's browser (i.e. Chrome, Safari etc).

Staff

Eligible staff can purchase a vPermit online at any timeSelect the most appropriate option for youThere are 90, 180 and 365 day options, as well as ongoing salary sacrificed permits for eligible staff.

If you are eligible for salary sacrifice, your permit is valid until you cancel it, you do not need to reapply each year.  If you purchase a 90, 180 and 365 day option, these are valid for the time period selected.

Student residents

2024 permits are valid from the date of payment until 2 February 2025.

For staff, please ensure you click the blue button Access via UOW Australia login”.  Do not enter your email address and password.

The system uses your UOW account details to verify you are eligible for a permit.  If you have a UOW staff account and try to use your personal or non UOW email address, you will not see the correct permits.

You can cancel your permit at any time via the vPermit system.  If you no longer need your vPermit, you must cancel it.  No refunds are available for permits.

Please note cancellations are instantaneous.  The cancellation request is time and date stamped.  If you have paid by salary deduction, these are made fortnightly and are not pro-rata. If you hold a permit for part of a fortnight, then you will be charged for that fortnight.

It is up to you to reapply for a permit if necessary to ensure you have an active parking payment when parked on the campus.  You can reapply by clicking on ‘Apply for a Permit’ on the ‘My Permits’ tab.

Please note you cannot have two permits at once, so you will first need to cancel your current permit if you have an existing active permit before you reapply for a new one.

You can only have one active permit at a time.

If you want to change your permit or payment type, you will need to first cancel your current permit.  This includes if you are currently salary sacrificing your permit and changing employment from UOW to another UOW entity.

If you hold a permit for part of a fortnight, then you will be charge for that fortnight.

It is up to you to reapply for a permit if necessary to ensure you have an active parking payment when parked on the campus.

To cancel your vPermit:

  1. On the ‘My Permits’ tab, click on ‘Cancel permit’.
  2. Click ‘ok’.

Your permit is now cancelled. If you are still parking on campus, please ensure you have a new active permit, have a ticket or an active CellOPark session.

Smarter City Solutions host the vPermit system on behalf of the University of Wollongong. All of the information collected on behalf of the University in the vPermit system will be stored within Australia by Smarter City Solutions. Any personal information you enter into the vPermit system will be subject to CellOPark's privacy policy. For further information, view UOW's vPermit privacy statement.

You will need to cancel your permit.

You are only able to have one permit type. You will need to cancel your permit and reapply for another if you wish to have a different permit.

However, you can have up to three (3) vehicle registration plates linked to your permit, enabling you to easily transfer between vehicles.

It is important to have all information available when registering, as online sessions can time out.

If you fail to complete the payment in time and have experienced a time out issue, please contact uow-parking@uow.edu.au for assistance.

Under the vPermit system you are only able to have one permit.  You would need to have a UOW Entry Permit and have both your car and motorcycle license plates recorded in vPermit.

If you drove your car you would need to ensure you had the car selected as the active vehicle and park in a valid car space. When riding your motorcycle, you would need to have your motorcycle as the active vehicle and park only in a motorcycle space.

Alternatively, you could have a permit for one of your vehicles and use CellOPark to pay for casual parking for the other. Please ensure you read signs and park in correct areas.

Unfortunately, refunds are not available. Please ensure you choose your permit carefully and consider what parking option best suits your needs.

The purchase of a UOW parking permit is restricted to eligible University students, staff, and contractors. Purchasing a permit for use by an unauthorised person is contrary to the University’s Code of Conduct. A permit can only be purchased in the name of the person entitled to use it. They cannot be purchased on behalf of another individual.

If you find someone parked in your reserved parking space, please complete the Reserved Parking Complaint form.

At the Wollongong Campus, alternative parking bays are available for displaced reserved permit holders in P1 and the Admin Carpark. These are signposted "Reserved Parking Back up Bay". Do not occupy another reserved permit holders space.

At the Innovation Campus, please contact UOW Security (4221 4555) for advice.

Payment methods differ depending on the permit type.

Staff permits may be salary sacrificed. Generally, most other permit types are payable via credit card (Visa and Mastercard only) and via the vPermit system.

Please be aware there is a surcharge on credit card transactions.
