A career in early childhood education and care, is richly fulfilling and stimulating. There are a number of roles from director to education support, cook, and bus driver. The role of an early childhood educator is to support children’s, learning, wellbeing, and development.

Shaping the minds of children through the power of Education

With a rewarding career in Early Education, you will be teaching children the early foundations of life. How to grow, develop and have fun. Kody Buckley shares her journey into studying the Bachelor of Education - The Early Years at UOW.

Bachelor of Education - The Early Years

My name's Kody Buckley. I was born on Dharawal country, and I grew up on Yuin country.

Supporting young children, birth to five, to grow and develop. Teaching them and playing with them and giving them those early foundations to life.

I think it was very spontaneous. I was like, I really want to know what I want to do. And then I did a traineeship and then I loved it. I love the relationships for children and families and building that relationship.

So I didn't finish high school. It wasn't for me. So I just was working in a shop. And then I got a traineeship in a community pre-school in Barrack Heights, which I loved, and I finished that within a year. And then I did my diploma in early childhood and finished up in two or three years. And then now I'm doing my Bachelor of Early Childhood.

I think just learning from different lecturers and learning from people, especially through my training. Learning from early educators who are in the industry and I was very special. I got a scholarship through the Department of Education, which really helped my study and be able to study that more.

Probably the interactions I have with children and all the small moments that the kids take in with you and teach you is really special. So the connections you build with families and those moments, where they're like, You really helped me and supported me and made their little lives just a little bit better. So I think there is such a stigma against Early Childhood about it's like easy and it's an easy job. But even though it's hard, it's still very rewarding, just like little moments and children.
