A creative arts degree immerses you in the creative industries and challenges you to think deeply and broadly about the changing world and the role the arts play within it.

Throughout the degree you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a leading creative professional in your chosen field.

In the final year of your degree, you will work on a major creative project with the goal of submitting it for professional publication, exhibition or presentation. Various artist and writer-in-residence programs take place throughout your degree and you will be encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities.

For students studying in 2025, see the course handbook for more information.

Performance and Theatre (major)

The Performance and Theatre major prepares you for a career in the performing arts. It will equip you to become an independent and multi-skilled artist, while helping you to shape future directions in the field through its unique combination of practical training and exposure to the Australian and international performing arts sector.

In your first year, you will study foundational acting and production. From second year, you will acquire specialised skills in performance and stagecraft and develop performance work in state-of-the-art theatres to present in a public context. You’ll gain a clear understanding of the professional practice standards needed to create and deliver high-quality work that will appeal to employers.

Alongside practical training, you will develop critical analytical expertise through the study of theatre and performance practices in a historical and contemporary context. You will also acquire research, written and oral communication skills that will enhance your employment options upon graduation.
