Overview

The Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Laws allows you to graduate with qualifications in both Creative Arts and Law. You will begin your studies in UOW's dedicated first-year law immersion program, studying only law subjects in your first year before introducing Creative Arts in your second year.

During this first year, you will learn in small, interactive seminars that encourage collaboration, discussion and practical application. This Law immersion program supports your transition to university through dedicated pod groups, where you study alongside the same cohort across first-semester subjects, with academic support from a dedicated First Year Coordinator. As part of your law degree, you will complete a legal internship, gaining valuable workplace experience before graduation. This requirement is unique to UOW, which is the only law school in New South Wales to require a legal internship as part of a Bachelor of Laws degree.

In the Bachelor of Creative Arts you will study in purpose-built facilities including industry-standard music recording studios, painting and textile studios, art galleries, and performance theatres. In this shared and vibrant environment, you are supported to collaborate across disciplines and foster creative exchanges. Throughout the degree, you learn alongside talented peers and are guided by award-winning artists, published authors, professional musicians and composers, renowned performers and playwrights. You will engage in real-world projects that connect your creative ventures with communities and audience.

In the Bachelor of Laws, you will develop skills in legal research, writing, advocacy, analysis and reasoning. In the Bachelor of Creative Arts, you will develop creative and technical skills through the creation and presentation of original works, while strengthening your communication, critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities. Together, these capabilities prepare you for careers across legal practice, the creative industries, government, policy and community sectors.

This double degree allows you to graduate with two qualifications in less time and overall cost compared with studying each course separately.

See the course handbook for more information.

In the Bachelor of Creative Arts core subjects, you learn collaboratively with your peers on how creative arts work, from project development and funding to audience engagement and the role of creative work in shaping culture, community and social change. In your chosen major, you develop creative and technical skills, confidence, and practical knowledge through the making and presentation of original works as performances, exhibitions, concerts, and publications for public audiences. The degree will strengthen your critical thinking, communication skills, and ability to apply creative solutions across a range of professional contexts.

In your Law degree you will take part in practical activities such as mock court proceedings, legal negotiations, oral submissions, and advocacy exercises that mirror professional legal practice. These experiences help build confidence in applying legal knowledge to real-world situations. The Law curriculum continues to evolve in response to changes in the legal profession, including artificial intelligence. You can further explore contemporary issues through electives, including emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, examining how they are creating new legal and ethical challenges.

Law students will complete a Legal Internship subject (LLB3397). This subject is the vehicle for a practical placement, completed over 4 weeks (totaling 140 hours, at 35 hours per week). It is designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice; enable students to understand the importance of developing the skills of legal research, communication, drafting, practice management, and problem solving; and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards, and conduct of the legal profession in practice.

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

For more details on course workloads, please refer to the UOW Handbook.

Questions relating to personal record checks for this degree should be referred to the School of Law.
