UOWTV

UOWTV is a showcase of UOW storytelling, creativity and journalism. It has a social-first approach to sharing stories of UOW and the community. Work is showcased across social media platforms, YouTube and the UOWTV website.

Established in 2009, UOWTV is embedded in the Bachelor of Journalism curriculum but it also has a volunteer program that provides all UOW students the opportunity to be a part of a content creation team and to showcase their work. The UOWTV volunteer program is now part of UOWx, the university’s extra curricular recognition initiative. UOWx formally acknowledges students who show commitment to select extra curricular activities.

UOWTV volunteers work with Bachelor of Journalism students to identify, research, report, produce and present multimedia content (including text, audio, video, photography, graphics) items of interest to the wider UOW community. In 2015, UOWTV added live audio webcasting (RadioU) into its multimedia mix.

"It really is a chance for the students to get their hands dirty, and put the theory into practice," UOWTV Editorial Coordinator Shawn Burns said.

"It's great to be involved in a program that is part of our journalism degree, but also acknowledges there are students in other faculties and other degrees who are interested in multimedia storytelling.

“It is practice-based learning. It's an experience the journalism students and volunteers can share, and, in doing, learn from each other, appreciate other perspectives, and showcase their work.”
