I'm not a TAEM student - can I use/book the facilities?

Edit suites, music studios, rehearsal spaces and other facilities are only available to students enrolled in TAEM subjects.

Piano practice rooms are available for general student use. These rooms can not be booked and are available on a first-come first-served basis. Keys can be obtained from the Technical Services office during opening times.

Who can borrow equipment?

Only students enrolled in TAEM subjects can borrow equipment from the loans counter. 

When is the loans counter open and where is it located? 

The loans counter is open from 8.15am – 1:00pm and 2:00pm – 4:00pm during Spring and Autumn session teaching weeks. Opening hours may vary outside these weeks, eg. during recess weeks, study weeks, exams, and summer session.  The digital signage next to the loans counter will advise current opening times.

How do I make a booking?

Bookings can only be made in person or by emailing taem-techsupport@uow.edu.au. Bookings can not be made over the phone.

What do I need to bring to borrow equipment?

You will need to present your student card  to borrow equipment. First time borrowers will also be required to sign a Loans Agreement - this must be done in person at the loans counter.

Can I use the music recording studios?

Music studios are specialised spaces. Only students who are undertaking specific music subjects and have undergone an induction can use the studios.

Can I enrol in a music subject if I'm not studying a major in music?

Some music subjects are available as general electives. Students can also choose to study a music minor by following a sequence of subjects.

Do I need to have music experience/ play an instrument to enrol in a music elective subject?

Students enrolling in 100 level music electives are not expected to have any previous music experience. Some 100 level subjects do have pre-requisites, so make sure you check the subject information before enrolling. Enrolment enquiries should be directed to LHA Central. 

Are there any rehearsal spaces I can use if I'm not enrolled in music?

Radio studios and video edit suites

Who can access these spaces?

Any student studying a Communication and Media (BCM) or Journalism subject can use a video editing suite. BCM and Journalism students who have spent class time in the radio studio or radio control room, and have learned the correct procedure to use their associated equipment, can also use the radio spaces.

When can I use them?

Students can use the radio studio and video edit suites on Monday - Friday, between 8:30am to 4:30pm. Times outside these hours may be available in consultation with Technical Staff.

How long can I use them?

Radio studio and video edit suites can be booked for a maximum of three (3) hours per booking.
