Overview

Embark on a unique philosophical adventure where you’ll explore the ideas, texts and questions that have shaped Western traditions of thought, while expanding your world view as you explore global issues impacting our world today.

Throughout the Bachelor of Arts in Western Civilisation you will engage directly with major works of philosophy, literature, art, politics, science and religion in small, discussion-based classes. It’s for students who want to be challenged: to learn how to think, not what to think.

As you study the Bachelor of International Studies, you will analyse national and global issues, learn about the forces shaping the modern world and the theories that underpin our understanding of important global issues. Opportunities to study abroad are also encouraged throughout your time at university.

This degree also offers generous scholarship opportunities valued at up to $20,000 per annum for up to three years, as well as an opportunity to engage in a bespoke scholarly experience.

See the course handbook for more information.

A double degree at UOW provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately. Having a double degree will give you a competitive advantage in a crowded job market.

UOW Ramsay Scholarship
The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation has generously donated funding for scholarship opportunities with a value of up to $20,000 per annum for up three (3) years.

Scholarship recipients will enjoy access to a dedicated study lounge, small class sizes, academic mentoring and an opportunity to engagement in a bespoke scholarly experience.

You are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity if you are a high-achieving student applying to study the Bachelor of Arts in Western Civilisation, and believe you demonstrate the UOW Ramsay Scholar Attributes.
