People with lived experience of disability

Our commitment

The University aspires to be recognised as a leader in disability services, ensuring that staff and students with disabilities can participate fully in the workplace and their education and be free from harassment and discrimination.

UOW is committed to providing an inclusive working environment where staff with disabilities are valued, supported, and encouraged, and can, as far as practicably possible, participate fully and independently in the life of the University. The University seeks to ensure equal opportunity for staff with disabilities and enables them to perform the genuine and reasonable requirements of their role by making appropriate and reasonable adjustments to the staff member’s workplace.

Disability Inclusion Network (DIN)

The Disability Inclusion Network (DIN) aims to provide a platform for meaningful conversations about what access and inclusion looks like at UOW, to share information, resources and events, and to act as an informal and community-based support for people with disability and their allies. The DIN provides a safe space for people to ask questions, share experiences, resources, research, and allyship and provides an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and be part of a community of support, ideas and practice.

Any UOW student or staff member can join, by sending an email to uow-din@uow.edu.au.

Disability and Carers Community

UOW is committed to providing an inclusive working environment where staff with disability are valued, supported, and encouraged, and can, as far as practicably possible, participate fully and independently in the life of the University.

We recognise the contribution that carers make to the community and the importance of supporting carers in their roles. We support staff with caregiving commitment to balance work commitments with their carer role.

Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2024-2026

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2024-2026 (PDF) establishes and promotes an equitable, accessible and inclusive environment across all that we do encompassing teaching, learning, research, engagement, operations and our culture. This three-year plan addresses key areas of need and reaffirms our commitment to Universal Design as the essential component to achieving success.

UOW is committed to providing an environment that facilitates the success of all students and staff living with disability, and to the provision of an inclusive culture where all individuals can actively participate and excel in their studies or work.
