If you’re planning to study at UOW immediately after finishing your HSC, International Baccalaureate (IB), or an interstate equivalent, you can apply for Early Admission to this course. Applications can be submitted via the UOW Early Admission website during the designated period, usually June – August each year.

Students can also apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

If you’re a non-school leaver (e.g., completed Year 12 previously and/or have a TAFE qualification or equivalent), you can apply directly to UOW.

Overview

Gain a comprehensive understanding of social issues and how to practically address these, while being equipped with a solid legal education. For social scientists, this double degree will enable you to advocate for clients in a legal context. If you’re pursuing a legal career, studying social science will provide greater empathy and understanding regarding the complexities of the human condition.

Throughout the Bachelor of Social Science, you will investigate society and social behaviour to understand and change human behaviour to positively transform the lives of individuals, families and communities. It embeds Indigenous knowledges and content, and subjects that will develop your understanding of social inequalities impacting on the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.

The Bachelor of Laws equips you with a comprehensive legal education. This world-class degree provides you with a thorough grounding in the law, the social and ethical context in which law operates, while equipping you with essential practical skills including an internship and integrated skills program.

  • Academic Entry Requirements

    Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia.

Compulsory Work Based Placement
Undertaking a work-integrated learning experience during your university education is now a significant contributor to being competitive in securing employment in your field of choice when you graduate from UOW.

Law students will complete a Legal Internship subject (LLB3397). This subject is the vehicle for a practical placement, completed over 4 weeks (totaling 140 hours, at 35 hours per week). It is designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice; enable students to understand the importance of developing the skills of legal research, communication, drafting, practice management, and problem solving; and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards, and conduct of the legal profession in practice.



  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study, practical work and placements.
