The School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences brings together academics from a diverse range of disciplinary backgrounds to provide excellent educational experiences for students, and to address important challenges facing the health of individuals, communities and populations. Our discipline groups of Indigenous health, medical science, exercise and rehabilitation sciences, nutrition and dietetics and psychology work together to produce health professionals who can work effectively in interdisciplinary health care teams and scientists who are ready to address key questions in health and disease.

Indigenous Health
Centres Indigenous ways of knowing to improve health outcomes, working with communities to address inequities, strengthen cultural safety, and drive self-determined approaches to care, wellbeing, and health system reform.
Medical Science
Investigates the biological and physiological foundations of human health and disease, developing evidence that advances diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomedical innovation to improve clinical practice and public health.
Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences
Examines human movement, performance, and recovery, applying scientific principles to prevent injury, enhance physical function, and design rehabilitation strategies that optimise lifelong health and wellbeing.
Study Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences
Nutrition and Dietetics
Explores the relationship between food, health, and disease, applying nutritional science to improve individual and population wellbeing through evidence-based dietary strategies, clinical care, and public health nutrition.
Psychology
Studies human behaviour, cognition, and emotion across diverse contexts, using scientific methods to understand mental processes, address psychological challenges, and support wellbeing through research and applied practice.
Teaching locations
In addition to our Wollongong campus, we offer teaching across the Shoalhaven, the Southern Highlands, and numerous healthcare facilities throughout New South Wales. This wide network helps us connect with communities, understand their healthcare needs, and provide students with rich learning experiences in real-world settings.

Community engagement opportunities

Our School spans four disciplines—Medical Science, Indigenous Health, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Exercise, Sport Science & Rehabilitation.

Clarence Valley Regional Training Hub
The Clarence Valley Regional Training Hub strengthens rural health by supporting quality medical education and professional development. Working with local hospitals, universities, and community partners, it offers training and pathways that help students and early-career clinicians build skills for regional medical careers.
