Orientation at UOW Shoalhaven

We welcome all new students with an orientation at UOW Shoalhaven. At these sessions you'll find out important information about your course, the campus, and handy hints for your first year at UOW.

Our next Orientation session for students commencing in first semester 2023 will be held at the UOW Shoalhaven Campus on Thursday 16th February 2023 from 9:30am to 3:30pm - Free lunch is included.

Topics include:

  • Key contacts on campus
  • An introduction to campus life
  • Academic skills workshop
  • The mysteries of student systems
  • Library services and PAC’s

There will also be an opportunity for new Nursing students to meet with senior School staff and try on their scrubs.

We are a hundred percent behind you and would love to share four top tips from your UOW campus to help you succeed

Tip 1: Enjoy the journey. Studying at University is a journey, that means it's absolutely ok if you're not certain about your career direction. Remember that there are UOW career consultants available to support you along the way, plus your time at UOW will allow you to explore new opportunities and experiences to help with these decisions.

Tip 2: Give yourself time. Creating a balanced timetable for your university studies and your personal life, is a great way to manage your time. Plan not only for classes, but for reading study and revision, and don't forget to include downtime for family and fun.

Tip 3: Your campus is a community. Ask lots of questions of your tutors, coordinators and local campus staff they are your support network and will go above and beyond to help you. Plus they have specialist knowledge about studying at a regional campus, and can point you in the right direction for academic or personal support. Also don't forget that your fellow students are a great resource for you to share information and reach out for support.

Tip 4: Tap into UOW resources. There are lots of a regional scholarships and extra funds available which can help you by resources and support yourself whilst you study. Simply ask the team at your campus, or search online for the scholarships that best suit your needs.
