Applying for a global online program is the same as applying for a global short course program. Just follow these two simple steps:

  1. Apply directly to the provider of your virtual program
  2. Submit our online short course application to apply for credit approval
  • Global online learning programs are open to all students, both domestic and international. However, some programs may have their own additional eligibility criteria. Please refer to your preferred program to see any further requirements.
  • New colombo plan grants are only on offer to Domestic UOW students, not available for UOW International students. 

Can I receive credit?

Most global learning online programs are designed for credit in the same way global short course programs are. You can seek credit approval from your faculty via our online short course application.

Please note: Credit approval is at the sole discretion of your faculty.

Is funding available?

While OS Help Loans are not available for any global learning online programs, some program providers are offering scholarship opportunities. Please refer to the specific program summaries for further details below. For further information about funding options, please contact the Office of Global Student Mobility.

 Students must meet all funding criteria in order to qualify for funding, included but not limited to the following:

  • You must be an active UOW student
  • You must be an Australian citizen (or permanent resident for Endeavour Leadership Program funding)
  • You must submit an application to their faculty to receive credit for the program.

When can I participate?

There are a range of programs available to students at any given time. However, each program varies in duration and date. In this way, you are able to choose a program that best suits your schedule.

About:  
Learn how to launch your own start-up while actually getting your idea ready to pitch to investors with the HEX Ed “Innovation” unit running within UOW subject *BUS 301. The program includes classes on UX, UI & Figma; market validation; product design and more. You will also have the opportunity to experience international business perspectives through interactions with industry professionals and mentors across the Asia-Pacific region. Complete the program as an intensive over the Mid-Year Recess or spread it out over the Spring Session.

About: Virtual international internships provide the unique opportunity to participate in real working environments from the comfort of your own home. You'll be fully supervised and supported as you gain industry knowledge from within your chosen career field. You'll be able to add the host company to your resume as you would with any other internship.

Program: ACEN Equity Scholarship - Applications closed
Provider:
 ACEN and Pagoda Projects
About: ACEN and Pagoda Projects have partnered to offer 7 equity scholarships to support eligible students in undertaking global online internships. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in a full or part-time internship program from 20 February 2023 in one of the various locations across the globe, from North America to Europe to the Indo-Pacific. On top of the internship, students will receive cultural mentoring, courses for work-readiness and intercultural fluency, regular online events with guest speakers, and full support from the Pagoda team throughout the program.

Program: Contemporary Technology and Business Environment in China - Applications closed
Provider: UOW School of Business and Law
About: Contemporary Technology and Business Environment in China is a two-week virtual study tour consisting of 10 seminars and workshops conducted by industry experts and researchers. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship valued at $1,000 to cover the cost of the program. Participation will require enrolment in either *ACCY231 or *BUS 301 in Spring 2022.

About: Since 2014, Sophia University's January Session has provided students from around the world with the opportunity to learn unique aspects of Japanese Studies in a comprehensive and intensive manner amongst a lively cosmopolitan community. The courses will be conducted live or with a mix of real-time and on-demand classes to maximize both interactions with lecturers and fellow students and flexible delivery across different time zones. About: The Climate Action Virtual Internship is an experiential learning program for students with a unique focus on climate action, supporting the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 13. You are matched in pairs to a host company overseas - common destinations are Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, China and India but our extensive network is truly global and also covers Europe and the Americas. You act as a consultant team and support the business to take real action on the climate emergency. The Program has been designed to challenge and empower you to take impactful climate action and equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to build your own climate literacy and prepare an effective Climate Action Plan or Climate Action Project for your host company. This internship program will be running with subject BUS 300*.

Learn something new this winter. Spend four weeks learning Chinese language (Mandarin) online while also getting a taste of Chinese culture. Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University in China offers a four-week Online Summer School made up of daily live, interactive online sessions and follow-up exercises and activities. There are several different language levels so you can choose the right course based on your Chinese proficiency. You will also be able to experience Chinese culture and join online workshops to learn Chinese handcraft, Chinses Kungfu and Chinese characters with Gamification.

Program: Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program - Applications closed

About: 
The Center for Japanese Language Education at Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) will launch an online version of the "Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Study Program" this winter. This is a three-week program, offering two different levels of Japanese language classes, elementary and intermediate. All sessions will be delivered in live stream interactive format to maximize the opportunities for participants to communicate with native Japanese speakers. KGU school volunteers will participate as "Nihongo Partners" in classes and work together to accomplish tasks and projects. The program will not only focus on language studies. In addition to the regular language classes, students will also be able to participate in Japanese Culture study sessions and make lots of friends through the program!

About: Beijing Institute of Technology offers two English taught courses through their International Summer Program 'Cloud Lessons'. You can choose to study either Green Transportation & Intelligent Manufacturing or Chinese language and Multicultural Practice. Program: Online Language, Culture & Leadership Program: The United Nations SDGs - Applications closed

University at Albany State University of New York
About: 
Students will research and discuss issues surrounding the UN Sustainable Development Goals and develop their own action plan in this 4-week course. Students will also study English for conducting research, creating proposals, presenting arguments, and working on teams. This program also includes an additional 8 hours of Conversation Club and Cultural Activities with University of Albany students.

Semester opportunities

Semester internship opportunities with funding

  • Gain work experience in the field of your choice through a 12-week international virtual internship, offered through three of UOW’s Third Party Partners.
  • All of these programs are FULLY FUNDED* through Australian Government funding, so your internship placement (normally costing between $1500 and $5000) is completely FREE*!
  • Internships can be part time, meaning you can complete while also studying. Academic credit may also be available for these internships, please consult with your UOW faculty for further information. Please note you must be receiving academic credit for your program in order to receive an NCP grant.

CRCC Asia Virtual Internship Program: Complete a 12 –week virtual internship in the field of your choice at an international company in Asia. Placements are available in the following countries: China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Republic of (South Korea), Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam

In addition to the internship, the virtual internship program includes weekly Google hangouts discussions, bi-weekly business webinars, an internship coach, and access to language courses and the CareerBridge internship curriculum modules.

We have several grants available to cover the cost of this program, offered through the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan.

Dates: Internships begin every two weeks on a rolling basis. Students should apply at least 8 weeks prior to planned commencement of the internship.

CISaustralia Virtual Internship Program in China, Hong Kong, Japan, USA, or South Africa:

Complete a 12-week virtual internship in the field of your choice at a company in China, Hong Kong, Japan, the USA, or South Africa. There are grants available for internships in China, Japan or Hong Kong through the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan , to cover the cost of the placement.

In addition to the internship, also included in the programs are cultural workshops, weekly newsletters, a preparation guide and session, an orientation, and a final supervisor evaluation.

Dates: Rolling. Students must apply 4-8 weeks prior to planned commencement of internship.
