NCP Scholarship Program

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is an Australian Government initiative that supports Australian undergraduate university students in undertaking immersive learning and internship experiences in the Indo-Pacific. Through the NCP Scholarship Program students can strengthen their Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy, living for 3 – 19 months in an eligible host location. NCP Scholars design their own experience, which must include at least a semester of study overseas but can also involve international language learning, internships, and mentorships.

Overall my experience at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia was wonderful and I could not recommend it more highly. The city of Yogyakarta is a vibrant and bustling place to live, with so much culture and tradition to experience. Step 2: Personal research and planning

Learn more about the NCP Scholarship by exploring their website. Be sure to read through last year’s Guidelines and Advice to Applicants, noting that there may be some changes for the upcoming 2027 Round.

Then, begin planning your potential NCP Scholarship program. You’ll need to research possible host institutions for your study component and map out subjects you could take that align with your degree. You may want to start by exploring UOW’s exchange partners in the Indo-Pacific, however please note that you can choose to study at a non-partner institution as a study abroad student as well.

It's recommended that you meet with your Head of Students prior to applying to discuss your course progression and the suitability of your proposed study component.

Step 3: Book a consult with a member of the Office of Global Student Mobility team

Book in for a consultation with a member of the Office of Global Student Mobility team to discuss your proposed NCP Scholarship program. You do not need to have your proposed program finalised by this consultation; however, at minimum you should have an idea of where you would like to go (some options of countries and host institutions) and why. The team will be able to assist you by answering any questions and providing feedback on your plan to-date.

Consultation booking details coming soon.

Please note that it is a requirement that you have engaged with the Office of Global Student Mobility through either a consult or email correspondence prior to applying.

Step 4: Submit an application to UOW

Online applications will open on Tuesday 7 April 2026 and close Sunday 10 May 2026.

Your application will be reviewed by the Office of Global Student Mobility and a team member will get back to you if they have any questions.

Step 5: UOW nominates eligible applicants to NCP

If your application to UOW is assessed as eligible, UOW will nominate you as an applicant to NCP. At this stage you will be invited to a UOW application workshop to assist you in completing your NCP application.

Step 6: NCP application process

You will be required to submit an online application to NCP as outlined in the NCP Scholarship Guidelines. UOW will support you in obtaining the necessary supporting documentation for your application as relevant.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with NCP. UOW will provide shortlisted applicants with interview preparation support.

If you have any questions or need further information please contact the Office of Global Student Mobility at study-overseas@uow.edu.au.
