Artists in Residence

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our artist in residence program has been suspended until regular international travel recommences

The Artists in Residence program provides staff and students with excellent opportunities to work and study with national and international artists, and media practitioners. This collaboration occurs amid a vibrant research culture, with significant potential for interdisciplinary and cross-artform participation.

UOW has hosted visiting artists and fellows from many countries including North America, Mexico, Scotland, India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, France, New Zealand and Turkey.

Visiting artists and fellows participate in teaching programs and postgraduate seminars and often undertake collaborative projects with students.

This program offers opportunities for creative researchers to spend time in the school to work on their research and to collaborate with other researchers. To apply for a research residency, please email an expression of interest to the Head of School.

Our most recent artist-in-residence: Satomi Kashio

Confined by Australia's Covid-19 shutdown, Japanese textile artist Satomi KASHIO responded to the world around her through natural dyeing and printing with Australian local plants in a transcultural project with Dr Agnieszka Golda and Dr Boni Cairncross.
