Professor Lisa Kervin AM

Lisa is a Professor in Education in the Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Wollongong. Lisa was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours for significant service to tertiary education and to research in early childhood digital literacy.
Lisa’s research focus has been young children and literacy education, adult and child interactions, play, and digital technologies. Lisa has been Chief Investigator on seven Discovery Projects funded by the Australian Research Council. Lisa was one of six founding Chief Investigators in the 7-year ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child where she also serves as co-lead of the national “Educated Child” strand of a and is academic lead for the UOW Children’s Technology Play Space. In 2025 Lisa embarks on an ARC Future Fellowship to focus on Intergenerational Play.
Lisa has published over 80 journal articles and 40 book chapters and is recognised for her interdisciplinary expertise. Her research has been used to inform the development of curriculum and policy by government agencies, with her research being cited by organisations like the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control.
