Borrowing

Borrowing from UOW Library

Use your UOW student card, staff card or guest card to borrow via our UOW Library Borrowing app or kiosk. Staff at the Service Desk can assist you. Find out more about borrowing from your regional or metropolitan campus library.

Loan receipts and notifications are sent to UOW student/staff email addresses (alumni and guest account notifications are sent to your nominated email).

Use our Library SEARCH to find and access items in our collections. And if you can't find what you're looking for, you can borrow items from other libraries.

Borrow equipment from the Loans Desk at the Wollongong Campus Library:

  • calculators (exam approved)
  • room kits for Group Study Rooms
  • and mouses.

Check My Library Card for items borrowed, due dates and fines, how to renew items, and activate and view your reading history.

By borrowing from UOW Library, you agree to comply with our Library Loans and Access Policy.

Placing holds

Holds allow you to request items already on loan.

To place a hold on an item:

  1. Sign in if you haven't already done so
  2. Click the 'hold' button above the item record.

You'll be notified by email when the item is available for pickup at your Library (you must collect the item within seven days).

Students cannot request holds for items available for loan in the Library. Holds are not available for 2-hour loans or equipment.

UOW Library Borrowing app

Wollongong and Shoalhaven Campus Library clients can borrow directly from the shelves using our UOW Library Borrowing app.

App users:

  1. Download and launch 'UOW Library Borrowing' from your app store.
  2. Login to the app by scanning your Library card or entering your UOW login details. Once you have done this the first time, the app will remember your details.
  3. Use the app to scan the barcode of the items you want to borrow - you can do this right from the shelves or from a study desk in the Library!

Kiosk users:

  1. Login to the kiosk by the Service Desk by scanning your Library card or entering your UOW login details.
  2. Scan your items to borrow them.

Renewing items

How to renew

Renewals for students

Students (Undergraduates, Honours, Diploma and Non-degree) can renew general collection items online, in person or by phone (02 4221 3545).

If an item is recalled, a revised due date will be applied, and the item will need to be returned to the Library.

If your Library membership is due to expire before the 170-day loan or renewal period, your items will be renewed until your membership expiry date.

Automatic renewals for staff and postgraduates

General collection items will be automatically renewed for staff, PhD and Masters students, three days before the item's due date. If the item is recalled, it will need to be returned to the Library. If your Library membership is due to expire before the 170-day loan period, your items will be auto-renewed until your membership expiry date.

Renewals for Alumni and guests

Alumni and guests can renew their items manually by logging into their borrowing record.

Restrictions on renewals

Recalled items, equipment and 2-hour loans, cannot be renewed.

Recalled items

You are guaranteed a minimum 10 days with borrowed items, but if another Library client places a hold on your item it will be recalled and you must return it.

A recall may change your original due date (see borrowing conditions for standard loan periods).

If an item is recalled, the due date will be 10 days from the date the hold was placed or your original due date (whichever is earlier).

You will be emailed via your UOW email with the due date of a recalled item. Late fees apply.

Returning items to Wollongong Campus Library

During office hours, use the returns chute in the entry foyer.

After hours, return items to the after-hours bin at the rear west-side of the Library (outside the arcade, opposite the carpark).
