Placement Grant

Placement Financial Assistance 2026

Undertaking a compulsory placement can create financial challenges for students. To help ease this pressure, there are two financial support options available in 2026 — the Practicum Placement Bursary and the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP).

Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP)

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will introduce the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP)*. The CPP offers financial assistance to eligible students undertaking mandatory placements in nursing, midwifery, teaching or social work.

The CPP has been introduced in recognition of the financial challenges faced by students during placement periods. For placements commencing in 2026, eligible students will be able to receive $338.60 per week (in line with the single Austudy rate) while undertaking placement.

* The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) is an initiative of the Australian Government, and we are currently working closely with them on its implementation. We will update this page with updated information as soon as it becomes available. More information is available on the Department of Education’s Commonwealth Prac Payment page and FAQs.
