TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship – Applications open 1 September 2026

If you're progressing from TAFE NSW into an eligible undergraduate degree at UOW, you may be eligible for the TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship, valued at $5,000. Students who have completed a Certificate IV (excluding trade certificates), Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Tertiary Preparation course at TAFE NSW may be eligible to apply.

If you've completed a TAFE or other AQF qualification, you may be eligible for credit for prior learning (also known as credit transfer or advanced standing). This means you could receive credit towards your UOW degree for subjects you've already completed, reducing the time it takes to finish and cost of your qualification.

Many NSW TAFE Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications have approved credit arrangements with UOW. Explore the courses below to see the credit available for your qualification.

Frequently Asked Questions – General

Yes. Qualifications obtained at TAFE, can be used as a basis for entry to UOW. Admission is dependent on the completion of the course and the level of academic performance achieved. 
The following qualifications may result in entry to, or credit towards some UOW degrees: 

  • Level IV Certificate (excluding trade certificates) 
  • Diploma 
  • Advanced Diploma 
  • Associate Diploma 

In some circumstances, advanced standing (credit transfer) may be granted for TAFE qualifications (excluding Certificate IV). This means that you gain credit towards your university degree resulting in less units of study undertaken to complete your degree.

Yes, UOW does accept the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) for admission to our courses. 

The TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) is an alternative to undertaking a senior secondary qualification. Entry to university is dependent on the level of academic performance achieved in the TPC. For more information, contact your local TAFE .

Yes, you may still be eligible. However, you may be asked to demonstrate currency of learning against current learning outcomes. 

The type and amount of credit for prior learning (also known as ‘credit transfer’, ‘advanced standing’ or ‘credit exemption’) granted depends on the program and subjects completed, together with the program rules and structure of the UOW degree.

Please note, the maximum amount of credit that may be awarded based on a completed course at the same or higher level is 50% of the credit point value of the UOW course. 

No. When completing your UOW course application, simply select "Yes" when asked whether you would like to apply for credit transfer. This will ensure the relevant credit transfer questions are included in your application.  

You will be required to provide your Academic Transcripts of previous studies undertaken to date, as well as subject outlines/syllabuses for the faculty to consider. No documentation is required for a CPL application for studies previously completed at UOW.  

Please note that UOW is unable to pre-assess eligibility for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) before receiving a completed application. CPL is determined by assessment from the relevant faculty after receiving a fully documented application 

Credit transfer is typically assessed for applicants who have completed an AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or higher-level qualification. Certificate II, and Certificate III and Certificate IV qualifications are generally not eligible for credit transfer, although applicants may be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on their studies and chosen degree.

UOW sets tuition fees for domestic undergraduate students (commonwealth supported students) according to Australian Government requirements. These requirements determine the tuition fee for units of study at UOW, which are made up of both student contributions and commonwealth contributions. Note: units of study at UOW are called subjects (e.g. BUS101); and subjects make up courses (e.g. Bachelor of Business). 

Student contribution amounts depend on: 

  • How the Australian Government classifies different units of study into funding groups 
  • The year that eligible students enrol and commence subjects 
  • Changes to higher education funding (subject to legislation) that classify units of study into different funding groups (and changes to student and commonwealth contributions) 
  • UOW encourages you to choose the right courses and subjects for you – areas you're passionate about and in which you see yourself pursuing a future career or direction. 
  • You can feel confident that, if you're eligible, you are still able to defer your student contribution to a HECS-HELP loan, which means you're not immediately out-of-pocket for your tuition.

The scholarship is available for most undergraduate bachelor's degrees offered at UOW Australian campuses. However, Bachelor of Nursing is not eligible for this scholarship 

No. To be eligible, you must have completed your qualifying TAFE NSW course within 12 months prior to commencing your UOW degree 

Yes. Eligible students will be invited to submit a scholarship application and answer a selection question as part of the assessment process 

Yes. The TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship can be held alongside other eligible UOW scholarships 

Yes. Scholarship recipients must remain enrolled in an eligible undergraduate degree for the duration of the scholarship

No. The scholarship is available to eligible students who have completed a qualifying course at any TAFE NSW campus. It is not limited to a specific location and is open to students from across the TAFE NSW network. 

Eligibility for the TAFE NSW to UOW Scholarship is not dependent on receiving credit transfer. Students who meet the scholarship eligibility criteria may apply regardless of whether they receive credit towards their UOW degree.
