Woolyungah Student Ambassador

Activity overview

How is this program run?

This program is running face-to-face only.

What will I do?

The Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) Student Ambassador will engage with future and current Indigenous students by sharing their own study journey at various events on & off campus throughout the year.

The Ambassador’s program contributes to our Woolyungah's vision of showcasing and promoting UOW as the University of choice to future and current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student cohorts across the state.

The program has three distinct objectives that aim to:

  • Increase our overall Indigenous student numbers here at UOW and thus their engagement with WIC;
  • Increase the skills, job readiness and capabilities of our existing students;
  • Provide tailored training such as mental health first aid, Trauma Informed Practice, Accidental Counsellor, etc.

The focus and primary responsibility of our Ambassadors is on engaging future students, deconstructing the perceived challenges pertaining to entering University faced by our Indigenous primary and secondary students and highlighting their own journey in a professional context.

Ambassadors will also mentor current UOW Indigenous students to successfuly navigate their educational journey.

How will I benefit?

The Ambassador’s program develops the leadership and employability skills of current Indigenous students as they work alongside our Future Student and Engagement service stream. The skills and experiences aligned to and gained through these casual employment opportunities are extensive and include experience in event co-ordination, general office administration, understanding bureaucratic process, sales, marketing, public relations, navigating the higher education sector, education pathways and mentoring.

How do I apply?

Interested students need to complete an EOI and provide a current resume and academic record.

Annual application timeline: January EOI applications open. Applications remain open throughout the year. Interviews with potential applicants will occur when required.
