Visual Arts Grad Show Committee Member

Activity overview

How is this program run?

This program is running face-to-face only.

What will I do?

The Visual Arts Graduate Exhibition (Grad Show) takes place every year in December. The exhibition is a significant annual event that allows those students selected to exhibit the opportunity to show their work to the general public and industry professionals. The Grad Show Committee is responsible for delivering and managing this event.

As a member of the Visual Arts Graduate Exhibition (Grad Show) Committee, each student will be involved in all aspects of producing a major event, working as a member of a team.

How will I benefit?

The Grad Show involves planning, researching and prioritising skills essential to the delivery of a major event. Students engage with a range of tasks, such as:

  • curatorial skills
  • event management
  • the marketing of the event including branding and identity
  • the production of a catalogue and sometimes a website, in order to produce their graduate exhibition

Students are also responsible for providing appropriate instructions regarding turning on and off, and the maintenance of their work, and for invigilating the exhibition. The work itself needs to be installed safely and while supported by the technical staff, students must also be aware of matters pertaining to safe installation, professional handling of art work and equipment, and risk assessments. Students have to develop interpersonal skills in order to realise a large project with substantial expectations around its professional realisation as well as working in groups to successfully bring off a wide range of projects (as mentioned above).

How do I apply?

The subject coordinator of the final year project subject will inform students of the date and time of the first initial meeting about the Grad Show. All roles are discussed and students nominate themselves for these roles.

Are there any special requirements for this role?

Students must be final year students in the School of the Arts, English and Media.
