Peer Academic Coaches are senior students who work collaboratively with you to achieve your study goals. Using their experience as a student, our Peer Academic Coaches are trained to support you with: 

  • Time management and organisational skills 
  • Study and assessment planning 
  • Adjusting to university life and study expectations 
  • Navigating university systems and physical spaces 
  • Motivation and positive study habits. 

Your Peer Academic Coach will work with you in your first coaching session to set goals and will follow up with you with ongoing coaching sessions to keep you on track. 
 
Peer Academic Coaching sessions can be held face-to-face or online. Coaching sessions can be conducted on an individual basis, or you are welcome to bring along some friends for a group coaching session. 

How to book a consultation

  1. Access the Student Success Portal
    If it’s your first time using the portal, you’ll need to set up your account
  2. Join the Peer Academic Coaching program
  3. Click 'Peer Academic Coaches'
  4. Select a coach and click 'Message'
    For a face-to-face consultation, select a coach on your campus
  5. Click 'Request session' in the top right corner
  6. The Peer Academic Coach will respond to your request as soon as possible

Our Learning Skills Advisors are committed to working with you to reach your study goals and are available to meet with you one-to-one, or in a small group session (if you want to bring some other students along!). Advisors can provide advice on: 

  • Understanding what is required in an assessment task 
  • Referencing 
  • Writing and structuring essays, reports and other assessments 
  • Critical reading and thinking 
  • Research skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Academic integrity 
  • English language and writing 

HDR Academic support

Our HDR-focused Learning Skills Advisor can offer one-to-one guidance and support on thesis writing and your larger PhD journey.

How to book a consultation

Consultations with a Learning Skills Advisor typically run for about 45 minutes, and can be either face-to-face or online. 

  1. Access the Student Success Portal
    If it’s your first time using the portal, you’ll need to setup your account
  2. Join the 'Learning Skills Support' program
  3. Click ‘Book a session’
  4. Select ‘Find available Advisor’ 
  5. Select ‘In person’ or ‘Video room’ if wanting to meet online
    For a face-to-face consultation, select your campus location
  6. Select your preferred day and time to book with an available Advisor
  7. The Advisor will respond to your request as soon as possible

Our Maths Skills Advisors support students in developing numeracy and foundational mathematical skills required for success in some subjects. This includes identifying gaps in prerequisite knowledge, diagnosing areas of weakness or misconceptions, and providing targeted strategies, explanations and practice to build confidence. Our focus is on strengthening core mathematical understanding so you can engage more effectively with numeracy in your subjects.

Our team can provide support in: 

  • Foundational level maths, particularly for students studying Education, Engineering, Business, Nursing and similar degrees. 
  • Statistics support for students studying in degrees such as Business and Psychology. 
  • Numeracy and problem-solving skills, basic algebra, arithmetic, and much more.
