New Colombo Plan

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is an Australian Government initiative that supports Australian undergraduate university students in undertaking immersive learning and internship experiences in the Indo-Pacific. The NCP aims to foster deeper people-to-people and educational relationships in the region, while providing opportunities for eligible students to develop their Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy.

The NCP contains three programs:

  • NCP Scholarships
The NCP Scholarships Program supports eligible students in completing programs of up to 19 months in an Indo-Pacific location. These programs must involve a semester study component, and can include further study, language training, and internships.
  • NCP Semester
The NCP Semester Program allows universities to apply for travel grants to support eligible students in undertaking experiences of one or two semesters, including semester exchange and placements or internships of at least ten weeks.
  • NCP Mobility
The NCP Mobility Program allows universities to apply for travel grants to support short-term credit-bearing student experiences of four-to-nine weeks, which may include structured learning, internships, practicums, language training, and/or research.
