Position nominated: President, NUS Delegate

Group affiliation: Yeehaw for WUSA and NUS

Howdy Howdy, I’m running for President and NUS delegate in the upcoming WUSA and NUS elections!

I am currently in my 4th year studying a double degree in Business Marketing and Politics. My goal is to make our university the best it possibly can be for students.

Next year, my goals will be to

  • Fight against the staff & course cuts on campus
  • Continue activism to end UOW ties to Israel
  • Expand our free period products program
  • Fight to save SARC
  • Expand WUSA's free student services

For far too long, students have been pushed aside, and our voices have been ignored. Together, we have incredible collective strength, and now it's the time to harness it. Let’s stand together and demand real, impactful change, rather than settling for the status quo or decisions made by disconnected university governance and out-of-touch committees. So say YEEHAW to a student union that fights for you!

Vote [1] YEEHAW for WUSA & NUS

Candidates for General Secretary

Position nominated: Women’s Representative, International Students Representative, Education Officer / Assistant Secretary, General Secretary, General Representative

My name is Modhuri Dey, though my friends call me Madz. I am nominating myself for the positions of Women’s Representative and International Student Representative. At the age of eight, I left Bangladesh for India because of the instability faced by my community. Growing up far from my parents was difficult but it taught me to be strong, independent, and determined. When I lived in a hostel in India, loneliness consumed me because I did not know the language. But I overcame it through the kindness of friends who made me feel seen and heard. That is what humanity is about: we support one another. I know what it feels like to be in a new place, learning a new culture and language all alone. I will work to build a welcoming community and celebrate our diversity. As a woman, I know the importance of having our voices respected and taken seriously. I will advocate for safe spaces, equal opportunities, and activities that empower women to feel confident. If elected, I promise to listen, to speak up for you, and to work hard so that every woman and every international student feels included, supported, and proud to belong here.

Position nominated: General Secretary, NUS Delegate

Group affiliation: Yeehaw for WUSA and NUS

Howdy everyone! My name is Hanzel-Jude Pador, I’m studying Bachelors of International Studies and a BA majoring in History, and I’m running for General Secretary with Yeehaw at this year’s Wollongong Undergraduate Students’ Association elections. Student unions like WUSA play a key role in providing the support and representation that actually addresses the issues of students. When Yeehaw was elected last year, we knew this and went on to fight for and win free period products across campus, the return of an on campus clinic, a new WUSA disability collective, a stronger Tert, and even more WUSA BBQs. As General Secretary, I’ll be fighting for an even stronger, transparent, and active union, and ensuring that our hard work continues. Our policies and initiatives are directly designed with students and their concerns in mind, and by voting for Yeehaw, you can make sure that they become a reality. The students of UOW deserve a student union that actively betters their lives, with strong and tangible services, support, and activism. So to build an even stronger and better student union that you can count on, vote [1] Yeehaw at this year’s WUSA elections.

I am an active member of UOW Pulse Volunteering alongside many of students’ favourites clubs from Run Club to International Conversation, Tabletop Society and Frisbee. I see this as an excellent way to be part of a team and build a better atmosphere for all UOW students from all different backgrounds and interests. Group affiliation: MORE BEERS FOR WUSA AND NUS

Hi everyone, I’m Charlotte Vakayil, and I’m running with More Beers for Wellbeing Coordinator for the 2025 WUSA elections. Student life at UOW is dead. The UniBar is expensive, happy hour is too short, the old school student ran events are gone, and the live music scene just isn’t the same. Back in the day at UOW, WUSA was responsible for all of this and could fix it, but because of the Uni, that isn’t the case anymore. More Beers wants to change that. More Beers will fight for $5 UniBar meals, WUSA-ran student events, more BBQs with more options, longer happy hours, and RadioU boiler rooms, and much more. As your Wellbeing Coordinator, I’ll fight to make sure Wellbeing will be at the forefront of WUSA. Undergrads at UOW deserve a better student life and student union just like the old days. Vote [1] More Beers.

Back in the day at UOW, WUSA was responsible for all of this and could fix it, but because of the Uni, that isn’t the case anymore. More Beers wants to change that. More Beers will fight for $5 UniBar meals, a second smoking area, WUSA-ran student events, more BBQs with more options, longer happy hours, and RadioU boiler rooms, and much more. As your General Representative, I’ll fight to make sure cheaper food and beers will be at the forefront of WUSA. Undergrads at UOW deserve a better student life and student union just like the old days. Vote [1] More Beers.

Position nominated: General Representative, NUS Representative

Group affiliation: Left Action - Free Palestine

Hey, I'm Ryan! I’ll be running as a General Representative in WUSA and a National Union of Students delegate with Left Action - Free Palestine. As 2024 Education Officer in WUSA, I organised the UOW Gaza Solidarity Encampment, the 200 strong Student General Meeting on Gaza and established the Fight the Cuts campaign. As a member of the UOW Palestine Society - Students For Palestine I helped organise over 200 students and members of the community to attend the historic March for Humanity across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on August 3rd. Throughout the year, I led the rallies for Palestine through Wollongong and had a hand in organising the Bisalloy Steels Pickets. The war on Palestine is continuing to worsen. The UN has formally declared what is happening in Gaza a genocide and the ALP government recognised a Palestinian state. This was begrudgingly done by both parties and was only possible because of the mass pressure we, the people, the students, placed upon them with our action. Student unions that fight against issues that students care about and are affected by are precisely the type of unions I will continue to fight for if elected. Vote 1 Left Action - Free Palestine.

Position nominated: General Representative, NUS Delegate

Group affiliation: Yeehaw for WUSA and NUS

Howdy everyone! My name is Kynan Coopes, I’m studying a bachelor of politics, philosophy and economics and I’m running for General representative with Yeehaw at this year’s Wollongong Undergraduate Students’ Association elections. When Yeehaw was elected last year, we knew this and went on to fight for and win free period products across campus, the return of an on campus clinic, a new WUSA disability collective, a stronger Tert, and even more WUSA BBQs. As General representative, I’ll be fighting for initiatives and policies like fighting against the cuts tearing apart UOW as an institution of education; fighting against business ties with the Israeli government, for a free Palestine; working to secure $5 lunches on campus, among many, many more. These new initiatives and policies were directly designed with students and their concerns in mind, and with Yeehaw, you can make sure that they become a reality. The students of UOW deserve a student union that actively betters their lives, with strong and tangible services, support, and activism. So to build an even stronger and better student union that you can count on, vote [1] Yeehaw at this year’s WUSA elections.

Position nominated:  General Representative, NUS Delegate

Group affiliation: Independent Media for WUSA

Candidate statement: I am running with Student-Led Media for WUSA because I have been Editor-in-Chief of The Tert since June this year, and am eager to use my experience in this role and with media more generally to help give students a voice. As a delegate to NUS and a General Representative, I will represent UOW's undergraduate students with passion and commitment.

Beyond my 2+ years experience as a writer and editor with The Tert, I have been on the executive team for both the UOW Philosophy Forum and UOW Liberal Arts Society, and furthermore have extensive experience in public speaking and debating. Consequently, I am well-equipped to represent students at UOW, and have the drive to do so. I recognise the need for change at the University of Wollongong and the importance of a strong student media presence in creating this.

I’m committed to helping create an environment where students are heard and supported, and the issues that matter to UOW’s undergraduate body are acknowledged and addressed.

Position nominated: General Representative, NUS Representative

Group affiliation: Left Action - Free Palestine

Hi, I’m Megan, I’m running for General Representative and National Union of Students delegate with Left Action - Free Palestine. I’ve been a socialist activist at UOW for three years. The UN has finally ruled Israel’s war on Gaza as a genocide. Hundreds of students have been saying this for two years. This year as Education Officer I organised the Wollongong wing of the student national day of action for Palestine, mobilising UOW students to stand with Palestinians suffering forced starvation and expulsion from their homes. I also chaired the student referendum on Palestine, which involved 70 students at UOW, voting to demand our government end the two way arms trade. Gaza has also raised the question of free speech on University campuses. This year I have been on the admin committee of the Peoples’ Inquiry into Campus Free Speech on Palestine, which held three public hearings of staff and student testimonies on the suppression of free speech on our campuses. Our student union needs independent activists who will persistently oppose injustice, from the cost of housing, to the climate crisis, to the genocide in Gaza. If elected I will advocate for the needs of the many, not the few.

Position nominated: NUS Delegate, General Representative

Group affiliation: Elevate

This year I'm excited to be running for ELEVATE, the only group that will:

BRING BACK CARPOOLING: Carpooling saves spaces, money, and your time spent driving around campus unable to find a spot. When free carpooling was abolished, WUSA did nothing. They’re too focused on themselves to care about the prices you pay for parking. ELEVATE will give students a voice with UOW Parking and Maintenance, and fight to re-open free carpooling.

FUND PULSE PANTRY: No student should go hungry. For too long, Pulse Pantry hasn’t got the proper funding it deserves. ELEVATE will make sure Pulse Pantry is sustainably funded on a continuous basis, seeking further ways to partner with local providers and end food insecurity on campus.

END THE WASTE: Can you name one thing your student union has done for you? We can’t either. From pay rises for their mates to extending their term limits, our union has looked after themselves while demanding more in SSAF from your wallet. ELEVATE will end the waste with responsible management of our student finances.

Position nominated: General Representative, NUS Representative

Hello, I’m a first year Maths student and I’m running for the position of general representative. UoW cut nearly a hundred full-time equivalent jobs at the start of the year and recently announced dozens more cuts to professional staff. This means more course cuts, more overworked and underpaid staff, and more degree-factory education for us all. I’ve organised protests, gathered signatures from students, and worked with other activists to pressure UoW management to reverse the cuts. I’ve also organised rallies, forums and mass student meetings to demand UoW to cut ties with weapons companies involved in Israel’s genocide. UoW has links with weapons companies that supply Israel with the hardware it needs to carry out genocide in Palestine.

My hobbies include:

- Handing out flyers for upcoming protests

- Promoting communism

- Playing chess

Position nominated: Tertangala Coordinator, NUS Delegate

Group affiliation: The Tert as Student-Led Media

I have been the Tert Coordinator for the past year and would like to continue for 2026 as well as I feel that my work is not done. This year our team has, changed grown to triple the size of the previous year; we have increased our social media presence by 7x; written our first constitution; gotten our first round of SSAF money; attended and spoke at the national Student Journalism Conference, and more. Next year, I plan to continue down this path by also bringing the Tert newspaper back to life, continue The Tert Radio Show and plan a lot more events, activities and workshops.

Position nominated: NUS Delegate, Treasurer

Position nominated: Ethno-Cultural Representative, NUS Representative

Group affiliation: Left Action - Free Palestine

Hi, I’m Tidus, I’m running for Ethno-Cultural representative and National Union of Students delegate with Left Action - Free Palestine. I’ve been a socialist activist on UOW for more than two years. I’m an Ancient History student and my course was cut, meaning any new students who want to take it are unable to! That’s why this year I was involved in the Fight UOW Cuts campaign to organise students against our university being turned into a degree factory as management butchered students' courses and fired hundreds of staff. In light of the epidemic of police abusing and killing People of Colour (POC), I helped organise and chair the Stop First Nations’ Deaths In Custody rally in Wollongong, because we shouldn’t allow the so-called “Justice” system to sweep the deaths of Aboriginal peoples and other POC under the rug. I have been an activist against the genocide in Gaza, on campus and in Wollongong. I have organised poster runs, stalls and led chants at rallies for Palestine. The student union needs anti-capitalist activists that are able to organise masses of students against this corporate university that keeps its ties to the genocide while slashing our courses.

Group affiliation: MORE BEERS FOR WUSA AND NUS

Hi everyone, I’m Logan, and I’m running with More Beers for General Representative for the 2025 WUSA elections.

Hey I am Alex and I study Engineering. I'll be running for the WUSA Education Officer - Assistant Secretary and NUS delegate with Left Action - Free Palestine. Over the past two years I have been the Environment Representative campaigning against any injustice where it emerges. I think the fight for humanity of the Palestinians in Gaza is the fight of our generation. I helped organise students to head up to Sydney for the Harbour Bridge march for Palestine. As well I have organised and got the word out about the pickets outside Bisalloy Steels to shut down production of steel that Israel needs to continue its genocide in Gaza. I have campaigned against the course and staff cuts and fight for free speech in our union. As the Education Officer I will continue this fight and to mobilise students to fight for Palestine, fight against the far right, and fight for climate justice. We need a student union that is prepared to fight for social justice and stand up for students rights. Vote 1 Left Action - Free Palestine for WUSA and NUS.

Position nominated: General Representative, NUS Representative

Group affiliation: Left Action - Free Palestine

Group affiliation: SOCIALISTS SUCK

SOCIALISM SUCKS aims to do what the great Sir Robert Menzies failed to do in the 1951 referendum and seek to BAN SOCIALISTS from the grounds of UOW. They are a threat to the peace and tranquillity of campus life and spread a dangerous ideology - this should not be tolerated!

Our plan includes:

- Banning all socialist ideology from campus

- Banning WUSA from expending student funds on protest activities & non-essential services; Plane tickets to Gaza for students involved in socialists groups exempt

- Imposing a $5000 fee for protest permits

- Getting UniBar a poker machine licence with all profits subsidising the cost of alcohol

- Allowing recreational fishing and clay shooting on McKinnon Lawn & the Duck Pond

- Bring back duck shooting

- Make parking payments CASH ONLY - CASH IS KING

- Selling off the Tertangala to News Corp

- 10c refund machines to satisfy increased beverage consumption

- Leasing parts of campus for fracking, with royalties being used to reimburse protest costs to students in the form of kebab vouchers

- A silent Disco on level 1 of the library

- Alcoholic Bubblers

- And establishing our own time zone to abolish daylight savings on campus

Group affiliation: More Beers for WUSA and NUS

G'day, I’m Antony, and I’m running with More Beers to be your Enviro Officer for the 2025 WUSA elections. My fellow students, our offer is simple. MORE events. MORE happy hours. MORE BEERS. What MORE could you ask for? UOW students deserve more beer options at the UniBar. We deserve cheaper beers, we deserve quality beers. From dark beers to light beers, from lagers to pale ales, every student deserves a nice cold schooner, or better yet a pint! Only More Beers will fight for $5 UniBar meals, more smoking areas on campus, more student events on campus, more BBQs with more options, longer happy hours, RadioU boiler rooms, and much more. UOW students deserve better, they deserve a better WUSA, and they deserve MORE BEERS. Vote [1] More Beers.

Position nominated: General Representative, International Students Representative
