CRLP202

Internships offer valuable industry experience. They are a great way to explore new career paths, especially if you're just starting out or looking to break into the job market.

To make internships more accessible and adaptable to the unique needs of individual students, the Careers and Employability team developed the 6 credit point undergraduate subject CRLP202: Career Ready Learning and Experience.

Through CRLP202, you can complete a Careers & Employability-sourced or student-sourced internship and gain hands-on experience working on real projects. Contact the Careers and Employability team to support you with your application.

Internships

Internships sourced by Careers & Employability are typically advertised from February to March for Winter/Spring Session, and from August to October for Autumn Extended Session. Check CareerHub for current vacancies or to submit an expression of interest.

Want to source your own internship? You’ll need to get your internship approved first. Applications for student-sourced internships are open from March to June for Winter/Spring, and from August to February fro Autumn Extended. Complete this form to seek approval for an internship that you have sourced.

What is involved in CRLP202?

  • Complete a 100-hour internship during either Autumn Extended or Winter/Spring session.
  • Attend four 2-hour workshops to reflect on your experience, identify strengths and skills, and plan future career opportunities across disciplines.

Autumn Extended and Winter/Spring Sessions

Autumn Extended and Winter/Spring are non-standard sessions that start earlier than Autumn and Spring, giving students the opportunity to complete 100 internship hours before the beginning of a standard session. Workshops and assessments in Autumn Extended and Winter/Spring align with traditional session dates. Students who want to complete their internship hours during a traditional Autumn or Spring session may be able to do so, but students must be enrolled in Autumn Extended or Winter/Spring.

Are you eligible?

  • Open to all undergraduate students who have completed 24 credit points.
  • You can undertake CRLP202 as a General Elective. If you do not have an available General Elective within your study plan and you would like to undertake this subject, please contact your Academic Program Director.
  • You must be able to commit to a 100-hour internship within the Autumn Extended or Winter/Spring

Careers and Employability arranged internships

The Careers and Employability team facilitates a variety of internship opportunities designed to enhance your skills and career prospects. These internships are advertised and managed through the CareerHub Jobboard at specific points throughout the academic year.

Key information for students:

  • How to find opportunities: Keep a close eye on CareerHub for announcements regarding available internships and the specific application timeframes.
  • Application process: You must submit a unique application to each internship that interests you. This ensures a fair and thorough evaluation of all candidates and simulates real-world job application processes.
  • Competitive nature: Please be aware that internships are highly competitive due to high demand. Therefore, submitting a strong and well-prepared application is crucial.
  • Important deadlines: Pay close attention to the strict application deadlines specified for each internship on CareerHub. Missing a deadline will mean you cannot apply.

Student-Sourced internships

If you've independently secured an internship, you can potentially use it to enrol in CRLP202: Career Ready Learning and Experience.

For students with a confirmed self-sourced internship:

  1. Submit the expression of interest (EOI) form: Your official notification to the University. Do this after an organisation has agreed to host you in an internship EOI form
  2. University review and verification: This ensures the internship aligns with CRLP202 learning outcomes. The University will contact your host organisation to confirm internship details and compliance.
  3. Internship paperwork: Once the internship has been approved, you will be asked to complete all relevant insurance paperwork.

Important: You cannot start an internship intended for CRLP202 without first gaining approval from UOW.

For Students Seeking to Source Their Own Internship:

  • Book a career chat: Chat with an Employability Officer to guide your internship search and approach organisations.
  • Share the information sheet: To help potential host organisations understand CRLP202 requirements, you can share this information sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

While most of the internships offered are unpaid, we do have some paid internships available.

Our internship placements follow strict approval processes, which exist to give UOW students access to lawfully unpaid vocational placements. For more information visit Fair Work Ombudsman website.

Most of the internships are flexible as you will need to complete 100 hours during Autumn Extended or Winter/Spring Session.

You can organise with the employer how you will complete the internship. For example, you might intern fulltime before the start of Autumn semester, and/or part-time during Autumn semester.

While we cannot guarantee you will be offered a paid opportunity after your internship, in some cases, internships can lead to paid positions.

We recommend booking a career chat to talk through different ways of approaching organisations. We also have this information sheet you can share with potential organisations.
