School of Law

About us

The University of Wollongong School of Law was established in 1990 under the leadership of Emeritus Professor John Goldring, who became its founding Dean. From the outset, the School was built on principles of social justice and equal access to legal education, values that still guide its mission today. Starting with just 81 students, the School has grown into a world-class institution, recognised for impactful research and strong community engagement.

Professional recognition

A UOW law degree is recognised for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Further details for NSW students can be found at the Legal Profession Admission Board website.

The Bachelor of Laws is accredited by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. Students from India and Bangladesh are encouraged to apply. Graduates can be accredited to practice as a barrister or solicitor upon returning home, subject to the completion of any required bridging course.

Partner with UOW's School of Law

We are seeking organisations across private, public and community sectors to partner with UOW’s School of Law to support our students’ learning and to develop Australia’s future workforce.

Partners have the opportunity to build long-term, strategic relationships and add value to their organisation by accessing talented upper year students.
