UOW Eurobodalla Art Prize 2024

UOW Eurobodalla extends an invitation to emerging school-age artists residing in the Eurobodalla region to participate in this art competition and exhibition. We are excited to showcase the talents of young local artists through this unique opportunity.

Entry period extended to 13 May, 2024

With a total prize pool of $1,000, the 2024 UOW Eurobodalla Art Prize has four entry categories. Students are encouraged to unleash their creativity by submitting a 2D artwork of their choice.

  • Primary School (Open)
  • High School (Open)
  • Primary School (Indigenous student)
  • High School (Indigenous student)

There is no entry fee to participate in this art award.

One winner will be chosen in each category

Each of the four winners will receive a cash prize of $250 and their artwork will remain on display for 2024.
Winners will be announced on 15 May, 2024.

Judging

Entries to the 2024 competition will be judged by a panel, based on originality and creativity.

Note: Artworks that are not collected will be returned to the student’s school as per their entry form. 

The artwork 

  • One artwork per entrant
  • Must be on paper (NOT board)
  • Must be unmounted and unframed
  • Any two-dimensional art materials may be used (e.g., paint, pencil, pastels, paper collage)
  • The artwork submitted must be the original work of the entrant themselves.

Size

  • A3 (420 × 297 mm), or A4 (210 x 297 mm)
  • Can be vertical or horizontal

Preparing your artwork for entry

  • Clearly label the back of the artwork with the preferred display orientation
  • Also record your name, age, school, address, phone number on the back of your artwork
  • Ensuring that your instruction and details do not show through to the front of your work
  • Do NOT roll, scrunch, or fold the artwork

UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG (UOW) 2024 EUROBODALLA ART PRIZE TERMS & CONDITIONS

Entry into the University of Wollongong (UOW) 2024 Eurobodalla Art Prize (“Competition”) is deemed to be an acceptance of the following terms and conditions. Entries must comply with these terms and conditions to be deemed a valid entry.

Please note that entrants under the age of 18 years are required to have a parent or guardian acknowledge and accept these terms and conditions on their behalf, by signing the Entry Form.

  1. Promoter: The Promoter is University of Wollongong (ABN 61 060 567 686) of Northfields Avenue, Wollongong, NSW, 2522
  2. Entry Period: Starts at 10 am AEDT Tuesday, 2 April and ends at 5 pm AEST on Monday 13 May 2024.
  3. Eligibility for Entrants:

Entrants must:

(a)    reside in the Eurobodalla region;

(b)    be enrolled as a student in primary or high school; and

(c)     if under 18 years, have the consent of a parent or guardian and provide their parent or guardian's contact details on the Entry Form.

  1. Entry Guidelines: To enter the Competition, the entrant must, during the Entry Period, submit an original artwork to UOW, ensuring the following guidelines are met:

(a)    Must be a 2D work in a theme of the entrant’s choice.

(b)    Must be on paper (NOT board).

(c)    Must be unmounted and unframed.

(d)    Any two-dimensional art materials may be used (e.g. paint, pencil, pastels, paper collage).

(e)    Size must be A2 (420 x 594 mm), A3 (420 × 297 mm) or A4 (210 x 297 mm).

(f)     Can be vertical or horizontal.

(g)    Must clearly label the back of the artwork with which way it should be displayed, along with:

    • Name
    • Age
    • School
    • Address
    • Phone number

Make sure this doesn’t show through to the front.

(h)    Do NOT roll, scrunch, or fold the artwork.

(i)     The artwork submitted must be the original work of the entrant themselves.

(j)     Entrants must complete an entry form and select one of the following age categories to enter:

    • Primary School (Open)
    • High School (Open)
    • Primary School (Indigenous student)
    • High School (Indigenous student).

(k)    There is a limit of one artwork per entrant.

(l)     Entrants must deliver artworks with completed entry forms in person to UOW Eurobodalla Campus or Batemans Bay Library, 1 Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay NSW 2536.

(m)  By entering this Competition, the entrant consents to their artwork being placed on display to the public in the Batemans Bay Library from 15 to 30 May 2024 (subject to. availability of space). If announced as a winner, the entrant consents to their artwork remaining on display at Bateman’s Bay Library or UOW Eurobodalla Campus until 31 December 2024.

(n)    No responsibility is accepted by UOW for late, failed, incomplete, or incorrectly entered entries.

(o)    UOW reserves the right to verify the validity of entries. Entries that are forged, incomplete, illegible, or do not comply with these terms and conditions will be deemed invalid.

(p)    The entrant is responsible for any costs associated with entering the Competition.

  1. Judging criteria: originality and creativity.
  2. Prizes:

(a)    The total prize pool is $1,000 made up of four prizes of $250 each, in the form of Visa gift cards or vouchers.

(b)    Prizes, or any unused portion of a prize, are not transferable or exchangeable, and may not be redeemed for cash.

(c)    All prizes are accepted entirely at the risk of the winner, and UOW excludes all warranties in connection with any prize to the extent permitted by law. UOW takes no responsibility for any prize damaged in transit. UOW is not responsible for defective prizes, lost or stolen prizes or misuse of any prize.

(d)    UOW reserves the right to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value (including where the prize is unavailable for whatever reason), where required. Prizes have been confirmed in good faith and UOW cannot be held accountable for changes or withdrawals of prizes due to circumstances beyond its control.

(e)    The prizes and/or any element of the prize must be taken as stated and cannot be varied by the winner. No compensation will be payable if the winner is unable to use their prize and/or any element of the prize as stated.

  1. Selection of winners:

(a)    The winners of the prizes will be selected out of the pool of entrants who have entered the Competition in the valid form at outlined at clause 4.

(b)    There will be one winner in each of the following four age categories:

    • Primary School (Open)
    • High School (Open)
    • Primary School (Indigenous student)
    • High School (Indigenous student)

(c)    The selection of the winners will be based on the skill of the entry. Winners will be decided by a panel of judges, and one entry from each category that best meets the judging criteria will win a prize.

(d)    The selection of the winners will be held at Batemans Bay Library on 14 May 2024 at 5.30 pm.

  1. Notification of winners: The winners will be contacted via any of the contact methods provided in their entry. Winners will be announced at Batemans Bay Library on 15 May 2024. The names, ages or age categories, and schools of winners will be published on the UOW website, and/or official UOW social media accounts, such as Instagram and Facebook, along with an image of the artworks (see clause 13).
  2. Claiming of prizes: The prizes will be available for the winners to collect between 31 May – 14 June 2024. A winner or their parent or guardian (if the winner is under 16 years) must present themselves in person to 1 Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay, in order to receive their prize. If a winner is unable to collect their prize during this time period, reasonable efforts will be made for the prize to be sent via courier or registered post.
  3. Unclaimed prizes: Reasonable efforts will be made by UOW to contact any winner who does not respond to the notification outlined at clause 8 above. Any prize not claimed or otherwise agreed to be sent via courier or registered post by UOW by 14 June 2024 will not be reallocated.
  4. Record keeping: UOW will retain all records relating to the Competition for a minimum period of three (3) months following the claiming of prizes.
  5. UOW’s decision: All decisions of UOW with respect to the matters referred to in these terms and conditions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into, including in the event of a dispute.
  6. Photographs/videos of artworks: By entering this Competition, the entrant grants to UOW permission and a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual licence, to take, use and publicly share photographs or videos of their artwork for Competition related purposes including marketing, publicity and education purposes, including to promote future competitions, and consents to UOW attributing the entrant by including their name and title of artwork, and (if applicable) winning age category. Entrants will not be entitled to any fee for such use.
  7. Liability & release:

(a)    UOW shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including, but not limited to, indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury, loss or damage suffered or sustained (even if caused by negligence) in connection with participating in the Competition or accepting or using a prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

(b)    If, for any reason, the Competition is not capable of running as planned, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition, subject to any directions from a regulatory authority.

(c)     All entrants release from, and indemnify the Promoter against, all liability, cost, loss, or expense arising out of acceptance of any prize(s) or participation in this Competition including (but not limited to) personal injury and damage to property and whether direct or consequential, foreseeable, due to some negligent act or omission or otherwise.

  1. Privacy

(a)    UOW is committed to protecting the privacy of entrants and winners. The handling of personal information collected by UOW in connection with the Competition will be in accordance with UOW’s Privacy Policy, available at https://www.uow.edu.au/privacy/. (b)   By entering the Competition, all entrants acknowledge that UOW will use and disclose the entrant’s personal information to the extent required to conduct the Competition, including identifying entrants, verifying, assessing, and judging the entries and issuing the prizes. The names, ages, age categories  and schools of winning entrants, and images of the entrant’s artwork, may be shared publicly, for the purposes and on the terms set out in clauses 8 and 13.
