The University of Wollongong values the participation of both staff and students in its decision making. Each year, the University hosts elections for a number of staff and student positions on governance bodies to ensure that all perspectives are considered.
Governance elections
The Council is the governing authority of the University. The Council acts for and on behalf of the University and controls and manages the University's affairs and concerns. Council members at the University of Wollongong play a pivotal role in guiding the university's Vision 2035 and Strategic Plan 2030.
Key responsibilities include overseeing university management, academic activities, financial and legal compliance, and fostering strong community relations. Council members may also serve on one or more Council committees.
Serving as an elected member of Council is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the future direction of the University, gain governance experience, and work collaboratively with a diverse and dedicated group of colleagues.
Non-Academic Staff Member Election (Vacancy)
Nominations open at 9:00 am on 1 October 2026 for the election of one (1) non-academic staff member on the University Council to fill the current vacancy for a term (16 November 2026 – 31 December 2027). Nominations will close at 5:00 pm, Friday 16 October 2026.
Staff eligible to nominate, stand and vote in the election for these positions are set out in the respective Notice of Election.
Nominations must be made on the nomination form and be received by the Returning Officer via email to uow-elections@uow.edu.au no later than 5:00 pm, Friday 16 October 2026, when nominations close.
