Overview

The SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness is your first step to a career in the fitness industry. This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to work as a gym or group exercise instructor.  
 
You’ll graduate in 5 months with a Nationally Recognised Qualification and will also be able to use this qualification to enter the SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness.  
   
We deliver this course from two locations - choose from either on-campus or mixed mode delivery in Wollongong; or mixed mode delivery in Liverpool. The on-campus option involves face-to-face classes 2.5 days a week between Monday to Friday. The mixed mode delivery option involves online evening classes two days a week, as well as six practical sessions conducted on Saturdays at UOW Wollongong campus or at a leading fitness facility located in Liverpool. You’ll get over 200 hundred hours of direct teaching from experts in Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Fitness Business Creation and Strategy, Customer Service and Communication. You will also be able to enjoy specialised tutorials and workshops from industry experts in the field of Sport and Exercise Science as well use the training facilities located at the University of Wollongong Sports Hub or a leading fitness facility located in Liverpool.   
 
You will study 15 units of competency and undertake 30 hours of practical work placement to complete this qualification. The course structure and units of competency are detailed in the course outline.

This course is also available as a workplace traineeship, and a school-based traineeship (SBAT) and is offered by our pathway provider, UOW College Australia.

Pathways

On completion of the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness, you will possess the required Units of Competency to gain entry into the SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness.

Admissions information

Achieve a minimum result of exit Level 2 in both Literacy and Numeracy online assessment; and

Minimum age 16 years at course enrolment.

    • Credit for Prior Learning

      If you have undertaken previous study or have relevant work and life experience, you may be eligible for credit towards your VET course, known as recognition of prior learning.
