Cognitive assessments

Cognitive assessments can help build a clearer understanding of how a person learns, thinks, remembers, and processes information. They can provide valuable insights into strengths, challenges, and areas where additional support may be beneficial.

At Northfields Psychology Clinic, assessments are conducted by provisional psychologists under the supervision of experienced Clinical Psychologists. Assessment findings are discussed with clients and families and may assist with planning support at home, school, university, or in other areas of daily life.

As we are a training clinic our capacity to provide assessments can change from year to year.

Is a cognitive assessment right for you?

We offer cognitive assessments for the following:

  • Specific Learning Disorder
  • ADHD
  • Cognitive Ability (eg. Intellectual Disability or Giftedness)

The assessment will be conducted across 2-3 appointments, scheduled in one-week intervals.

The initial assessment interview (1-2 hours) is to gather background information and the reason for the assessment.

The first cognitive testing session (~3.5 hours) involves completing several psychometric tests in one session.

A second cognitive testing session is made and will be utilised if additional testing is required.

A feedback session is arranged after the report is complete (up to 6-8 weeks after assessment). Final payment must be made at this appointment.

We do not provide diagnostic assessments for Autism.

Eligibility criteria:  When our waitlist opens in 2027, cognitive assessments are available to concession and health care card holders (or their children for ages 6+) who are Illawarra and Shoalhaven residents.
