Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Despite public awareness campaigns like slip slop slap, and an increased knowledge about skin cancer, rates of deadly cancers such as melanoma are not reducing. Dr Phil Barker is a researcher on a UOW Global Challenges project aiming to reduce this trend.
“Australia is not a level playing field for people and we can’t be using European systems for Australian consumers, otherwise we’re going to carry on losing people at the rate we are at the moment… and that’s not a good situation.” says Dr Barker who is pictured below.
