Professor Susanna Guatelli
Head of School
Professor Susanna Guatelli is an internationally recognised expert in Monte Carlo radiation transport simulation for radiation physics. She joined the University of Wollongong’s School of Physics in 2009 and has held a range of teaching and leadership roles, including Academic Program Director for the Bachelor of Medical and Radiation Physics, Head of Postgraduate Studies (2022–2023), and Interim Head of the School of Physics (2025-2025).
Professor Guatelli is a leading contributor to Geant4, a globally renowned Monte Carlo simulation code, and served on the Geant4 Collaboration Steering Board from 2018 to 2024. She has supervised more than 50 PhD and Master’s students and published over 250 scientific papers and five book chapters. Her work focuses on advancing radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, medical imaging, and radiation safety. Her achievements have been recognised with the 2021 Australian Institute of Physics Women in Physics Award, and she joined the ARC College of Experts in 2022.
