Professor Jun Shen is an active researcher and educator with expertise across computational intelligence, cloud and IoT, data science, and software and information systems, focused on solving real-world challenges. He has contributed to more than 40 funded projects supported by major organisations, including the ARC, CRC, NSFC and DIN, spanning areas such as AI in education, bioinformatics, intelligent transport systems, digital health and aged care, as well as emerging applications in the arts, media and regional communities. Professor Shen’s work is highly cited in bio-inspired algorithmic optimisation, with growing impact in the application of AI to creative and communication disciplines.
Professor Shen has supervised 32 PhD candidates to completion and currently supervises a further 20+. He mentored more than 20 early- and mid-career researchers. An IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Shen also holds editorial roles with leading Q1 journals, including IEEE Transactions, has undertaken academic visits to institutions such as MIT, UC Irvine and Georgia Tech, and has secured more than $4.5 million in competitive research funding.
