Our Virtual Research Lab is designed to be a central hub for researchers from the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business (ASB), providing access to a range of software, analytical tools and databases to support your work.

Whether you're interested in supporting your data analysis and data visualisation, exploring new research methodologies, or accessing research related databases, this lab offers the resources you need to excel.

The lab includes information on various software, analytical tools and databases which are available for download/installation and use. Instructions and access details are provided to help you get started.

Software and advanced analytics tools

Bloomberg Terminal

Recommended use: A comprehensive tool for accessing real-time market data, financial news, analysis, economic research, historical data, portfolio management and trading.

LSEG Workspace

Recommended use: A financial data, analytics, and news platform designed for professionals to analyse markets, manage portfolios, and trade.

Padlet

Recommended use: Padlet is a collaborative workspace designed for content creation and sharing.

Qualtrics

Recommended use: UOW has approved Qualtrics as a survey tool for the collection and creation of research data.

Slido

Recommended use: Slido is an easy to use Q&A and polling platform used for meetings, events, and conferences.

Zotero

Recommended use: A free referencing tool to help you collect, manage and share research papers, discover research data and collaborate online.

Matlab

Recommended use: MATLAB is a programming and numeric computing platform used by engineers and scientists to analyse data, develop algorithms, and create models.

NVIVO

Recommended use: NVIVO is a qualitative and mixed method data analysis software.

Python

Recommended use: Python is a general purpose programming language that can be used for data analysis and integrating systems.

SAS

Recommended use: SAS software is used for statistical analysis, data mining, forecasting, and visualisation functions.

SPSS

Recommended use: Software platform provides advanced statistical analysis, a comprehensive library of machine learning algorithms, text analysis capabilities, open-source extensibility, integration with big data, and seamless deployment into applications.

Stata

Recommended use: Stata is a statistical package designed to explore, summarise and analyse datasets.

AmoS
Recommended use: A structural equation modeling (SEM) software helping support your research and theories by extending standard multivariate analysis methods, including regression, factor analysis, correlation and analysis of variance.

R

Recommended use: R is an integrated suite of software facilities for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display

Recommended use: RStudio is an integrated development environment (IDE) that provides a set of tools built to help you be more productive with R and Python.

The following self-help guides are designed to help you through all stages of the research journey:

Newspaper and individual trade and scholarly journals

UOW Library holds a subscription to most major Australian newspapers and a variety of individual trade and scholarly journals Access is available to staff and students via the Library's two main news databases. This means you can read news articles from the major news outlets which are often behind a paywall on their websites.

Researchers and research students can also access leading international publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and The Financial Times.
