Overview

The Diploma of Education Studeis provides guaranteed entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of Wollongong (UOW).

You will build the skills needed to succeed in your UOW bachelor and explore areas such as child development, literacy, numeracy, science, and education studies. You will graduate with a Higher Education Diploma that can support entry into the workforce while you complete your bachelor’s degree.

This diploma is a pathway qualification and does not lead to an independent teaching qualification. Students who choose to exit after the Diploma of Education Studeis may pursue employment as a School Learning Support Officer or in another education-related role that is not a qualified teacher.

This course consists of three sessions, each lasting 14 weeks, and is offered by our pathway provider, UOW College Australia

UOW College offers three intakes each year, giving you the flexibility to start your studies at different times throughout the year.

*The guarantee is subject to meeting UOW entry requirements as described in the course outline.

This course is accredited by the University of Wollongong (TEQSA Provider ID: PRV12062; CRICOS: 00102E) and delivered by UOW College Australia (TEQSA Provider ID: 12027; CRICOS: 02723D). UOW College Australia is a registered business name of UOWC Ltd (ABN: 14 105 312 329).

Admissions information

The procedures governing admission are defined in UOW's Admissions Procedures, and the UOW College Admissions Policy. For additional information, see UOW College Admission Information.

  • Recent Secondary Education

    Minimum ATAR 30; or

    4 HSC Subjects ≥65%; or

    3 HSC Subjects ≥70%; or

Applicants who completed Year 12, or left school, more than 2 years ago (either with or without an ATAR or HSC) will be required to undertake a basic literacy online test to determine eligibility for this course.

  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) study

You may be considered for admission to this course if you have completed a vocational education and training (VET) qualification, such as a Certificate IV. You will need to provide evidence of your qualification, which will then be converted to a selection rank and assessed to determine if you meet the minimum entry requirements.

  • Work and life experience

If you have not completed a recognised qualification or your ATAR (or equivalent) does not meet the entry requirements for your selected course, UOW College may consider your relevant work and life experience. Applications for entry into a course on these grounds are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

UOW College encourages course applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and may offer additional support through the Aunty Linda Cruse Scholarship.

While studying at UOW College, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will also have access to support and resources through the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre.

  • Workload

As a guide, the workload for your course is determined by the number of subjects you take each session. Four subjects in a standard session is considered to be a full-time load and generally equivalent to working full-time e.g. 35-45 hours a week (including preparation, revision and assessment tasks undertaken in your own time, in addition to the scheduled classes you must attend).

  • Credit for Prior Learning

If you have undertaken previous studies at UOW College or another Higher Education provider, you may be eligible to receive credit (towards your course) for your prior learning. Credit for prior learning requires an assessment of your past learning for equivalency with subjects delivered in your chosen course. For more information on applying for credit for prior learning see the Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and related Procedures and the Credit Transfer Arrangements webpage.
