Yunnan Arts University visit UOW

On 16th December 2019, Yunnan Arts University (YNAU) paid an inaugural visit to UOW. YNAU is located in Kunming, one of China’s most diverse provinces. This ethnic and cultural diversity is represented in the form of traditional dance arts, handcraft arts and drama arts. The University currently has over 12,000 students enrolled across 9 faculties, encompassing, design, music, fine arts, dance, drama, arts and culture, film and TV, continued education and attached arts middle school.

Delegates included Yanling Huang, Chairman of University Council, Yanpeng Zhang, Director, Human Resources Office, Zhi Wang, Deputy Dean, Film and TV School, Yuan Yuan, Lecturer, Film and TV School and Zhou Yang, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office. The delegation was joined by Faculty of Law, Humanities and Arts staff members, Dr Kate Bowles, Associate Dean International, A/Prof Brogan Bunt, Head of School, TAEM, Mr Shawn Burns, Lecturer in Journalism, TAEM, Dr Steinar Ellingsen, Senior Lecturer, Journalism, TAEM, Ms Lily An, International Manger and Ms Adelaide Haynes, International Officer.

Together, the delegation explored similarities and differences in teaching curriculum, as well as the universal cultural significances of the arts.

Their visit coincided with the annual Graduate Exhibition ‘Osmosis,’ which showcased final year student’s work spanning visual arts, graphic design, media arts, textiles, sculpture and photography. The delegates were impressed by the quality of the showcase, and commended staff and students involved in delivering a fascinating exhibition.
