First-of-its-kind rugby program gives high school students a head start to the game

Four-day UOW Crusaders Elite Residential Program builds technical and tactical skills

The University of Wollongong’s (UOW) Elite Residential Program (ERP) offers high school students a one-of-its-kind opportunity to develop their skills through a world leading rugby training system.

The four-day program has been tailored to build the rugby skills of students in years 9 through 12, with major aspects of the UOW Crusaders Global Rugby Program included. It aims to give students a better understanding of the tactical and technical areas of the game within a short period.

The Elite Residential Program will be led by highly experienced, professional coaches from the Crusaders coaching program that has produced 10 Super Rugby Championships, 2 Super Rugby Aotearoa Championships and world-class rugby players.

UOW Crusaders Global Rugby Program head coach Andy Gibson said the students would get to train with the most successful rugby club in the world that enables them to challenge themselves and get the best out of it.

“The ERP gives students an in-depth understanding of the game and what makes the Crusaders so successful from the way they train, prepare, and live,” Mr Gibson said.

“Students will build some new skills and activities to help grow their skillset to challenge themselves and reach their full potential.

“The four days will give students the insight they need to enhance their game and fuel their passion for rugby.

“Students will form new friendships through the program and enjoy all of our fun activities and create lifelong memories.”

Enrolled students are not required to reside on campus to complete the program, but it is recommended that they do if they do not live locally as the sessions finish late in the evening.

The University strictly follows COVID-safe protocols and guidelines from NSW Health to keep students and staff safe on campus.
