Chancellor recognised for service to business, non-profits and women
UOW professor, honorary recipients and supporter also recognised
University of Wollongong (UOW) Chancellor, Ms Christine McLoughlin AM FAICD, has been recognised in the 2021 Queens Birthday Honours list, along with a senior professor, several of the University’s honorary recipients and a long-time supporter.
Ms McLoughlin, who took office as UOW’s fourth Chancellor in September 2020, was made a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to business, the not-for-profit sector, and women.
Ms McLoughlin has long been a prominent supporter of women in business and is currently the Australian Private Sector Representative on the G20 EMPOWER Council and a member of the Women Corporate Directors and Chief Executive Women. She has also previously been a Council and Nominations Committee Member. Ms McLoughlin is also Chair and Co-Founder of the Minerva Network, which mentors and supports Australia’s professional female athletes.
In addition to her leadership of UOW as Chancellor, Ms McLoughlin is Chairman of the Suncorp Group, and Chairman of Destination NSW, having previously served as Chair of Events NSW, as a Non-Executive Director of nib Holdings Ltd, Whitehaven Coal Limited, Cochlear Ltd, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and the Victorian Transport Accident Commission.
UOW psychology professor recognised
UOW Director of Professional and Clinical Psychology Training and developer of the University’s highly successful Northfields Clinic and Northfields Clinic @ Early Start, Senior Professor Brin Grenyer, received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to psychology. Senior Professor Grenyer is currently Vice-President of the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders and leads Project Air, a UOW-based collaborative centre of excellence for research, education and treatment of personality disorders.
UOW honorary recipients and supporters recognised
Emeritus Professor Kurt Lambeck AO, who has been a UOW Honorary Professor since 2014 and received an Honorary Doctorate of Science in 2015, was named a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent service to science, particularly to geophysics and geodesy, through research roles at the national and international level, to professional scientific organisations, and to education.
Emeritus Professor John Bremner, an Emeritus Professor of the University of Wollongong since 2008 and is an honorary member of Molecular Horizons – UOW’s Molecular Life Sciences Research Centre, was named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to tertiary education, and to biomolecular science
Dr Bronwyn Evans, an honorary fellow of the University since 2012 and who also served as a member of the Advisory Board for the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, was named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to engineering, to standards, and to medical technology.
Australian film, television and theatre actor Peter Carroll, who received an Honorary Doctorate of Creative Arts from UOW in 2003, was also named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the performing arts as an actor.
The Honourable Patricia Bergin SC, who served as a committee member for UOW’s Faculty of Law for 12 years from its establishment in 1990, was named an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the law, and to the judiciary, to legal administration, and as a mentor and advisor.
UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Davidson, congratulated the Chancellor, along with the other recipients who have made contributions to the University over many years.
