College recognised for outstanding commitment to gender equality

UOW College has been named a 2014 Employer Of Choice for Gender Equality by the Australian Government’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

This prestigious prize, of which 76 were awarded nationally, recognises the Colleges’ continual commitment to increasing gender equality within the workplace.

Ms Marisa Mastroianni, Group Chief Executive Officer of UOW Enterprises, which manages UOW College, said the award recognises UOW College as an industry leader in equality.

“We are excited and proud to have received this citation. Diversity and Equity is a strategic priority that reinforces our corporate values and the principles of fairness, inclusiveness and respect.

“Our diversity and equity initiatives have had a positive impact on business performance, staff engagement and retention and our employer brand and reputation. Put simply it makes good business sense,” Ms Mastroianni said.

Ms Julie Renwick, General Manager of UOW College said the award reaffirms that the College is on the right track when it comes to equality.

Helen Conway, Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency said leading companies are increasingly realising diverse and inclusive workplaces are a baseline feature of well-managed organisations.

“Holders of the 2014 Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation can be distinguished by their commitment to ‘doing’ rather than simply ‘talking’. They are driving the lasting cultural and organisational change that is essential for any organisation committed to maximising the potential of women and men.”

UOW College provides a supportive learning environment where students build skills and knowledge through quality English language teaching and testing, vocational courses and academic pathway programs.

As an integral and strategic unit of UOW, UOW College enables students to meet their personal, educational and career goals. In 2013, UOW College marked its 25th anniversary. Since 1988, more than 23,000 students from 30 different nationalities have graduated from the College.
