After extensive negotiations with the world’s leading scholarly publishers, the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL) has confirmed it will not enter into a consortium agreement with Elsevier for ScienceDirect journal content in 2026.
Despite months of dialogue, the parties were unable to reach agreement on major commercial terms including transparency on pricing, agreement structure and inclusion of gold open access publishing.
The Library is actively evaluating how this development may affect teaching delivery and publishing activities at UOW, and we are investigating contingencies for access options. The Library is committed to providing timely updates as further information becomes available.
