Malaysian Internship Program

The unpaid internships last for 4 weeks (20 working days). In addition to satisfying the requirements of LLB 3397/3396 Legal Internship, the Malaysian Internship:

• gives students a first-hand learning experience in Asia while enhancing their workplace skills and expertise;
• broadens cultural awareness and enhances appreciation of how the law operates and is practiced in Malaysia (an interesting jurisdiction because of its blend of codified law, common law and Sharia Law);
• enhances student understanding of the challenges and benefits of global legal practice; and
• exposes students to post graduate employment and study options in Malaysia.

The Federal Government funding varies but assists in meeting the costs of travel to and from Kuala Lumpur and accommodations expenses during the internship.

Applications for the 2026 Malaysian Legal Internship Program under New Colombo Plan Funding open Monday, 13 July, 2026 and close at 5pm Friday, 7 August, 2026. Please forward an expression of interest (250-500 words) indicating why you would like to undertake your internship in Malaysia and how you think you will benefit from the experience, together with a short resume and copy of your enrolment record to: asb-mobility@uow.edu.au. 

Applications are invited from students who:

• are currently in at least their 3rd year of LLB study (or 2nd year Graduate LLB); and
• have not already completed LLB3397/3396 Legal Internship. 

Applicants MUST be able to undertake the whole of the internship over the internship dates (Monday, 23 November to Friday, 18 December, 2026) and must have a current valid passport with at least 6 months validity at the date of entry to Malaysia. Please note that the total program duration, including the internship dates and travel dates, is from Sunday, 22 November to Saturday, 19 December, 2026.
