During NAIDOC Week, from Friday 11 July to Sunday 13 July, the Illawarra community gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of Uncle Decky Robinson—a proud Wailwan and Gamilaroi man, beloved community member, and tireless champion of Indigenous sport.
A special lawn bowls tournament, held in his honour at Wiseman Park Bowling Club in Gwynneville, brought together Indigenous bowlers and supporters from across the state. The event celebrated Uncle Decky’s lifelong passion for the game, his commitment to community, and his lasting impact on all who knew him.
More than just a competition, the weekend fostered a deep sense of camaraderie, connection, and celebration. Indigenous Bowls Day is now a cherished annual event that not only remembers Uncle Decky's legacy but also strengthens community bonds and gives back in meaningful ways.
The tournament was a heartfelt celebration of Uncle Decky Robinson’s legacy—uniting community through sport, honouring culture, and investing in the next generation of leaders.
This year, all funds raised were directed to the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) at the University of Wollongong. WIC supports 644 Indigenous students who travel from across Country to pursue their education, carrying with them the hopes of their families and communities. The centre provides culturally tailored services, academic support, and a nurturing environment to empower students on their journey.
Thanks to the generosity of local sponsors a $12,000 mega raffle was on offer and all monies raised would be given to (WIC) to support our current students.

Staff and ambassadors from WIC were instrumental in the weekend’s success—selling raffle tickets, assisting with catering, and helping with event logistics.
The highlight came on Sunday afternoon, when a cheque for $14,200 was presented to Woolyungah staff —funds that will now provide financial assistance, access to essential educational resources, and ongoing support to Indigenous students at UOW.
