UOW Dubai to UOW Australia Campus Transfer

Block Credit Mapping — Business, Engineering and Computer Science

These arrangements are treated as an internal campus/location transfer within each UOW degree, based on recognition of a completed curriculum stage — not a conventional external articulation requiring subject-by-subject equivalence.

Approval has been granted for UOW Dubai (UOWD) Bachelor of Business (all single majors) and Bachelor of Business Administration students transferring to UOW Australia (UOWA), to receive credit transfer into the courses below.

Notes and Validity

Students who have completed additional subjects will need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

This approval remains valid for entry into UOW Australia for 2026 and 2027.

Students commencing the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at UOW Dubai may transfer to the corresponding Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at UOW Australia after one, two or three completed years of study. A completed academic year is recognised as a 48 credit point block of the corresponding UOW Engineering curriculum — the block, not individual subjects, is the unit of recognition.

MATH142 – Essentials of Engineering Mathematics (6 cp)

MATH142 – Essentials of Mathematics: Integral Calculus and Series (6 cp)

PHYS143 – Physics for Engineers (6 cp)

PHYS143 – Physics for Engineers (6 cp)

Block outcome: the completed Year 1 stage (48 cp) is recognised as a block. The student enters Year 2 of the corresponding UOW Australia Engineering major.

Minor wording differences in the public titles of MATH141 and MATH142 are immaterial to the block decision; the subject codes and curriculum position identify the common first-year stage.

Worked Example — Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering case illustrates why a block approach is used rather than individual subject equivalence decisions: UOWD packages advanced engineering mathematics and statistics as MATH291 (3 cp) and STAT291 (3 cp), whereas UOW Australia packages the corresponding content as MATH283 (6 cp) — the overall Year 2 stage remains 48 cp at each location.

UOWD — Civil Engineering Year 2 (48 cp)

UOW Australia — Civil Engineering Year 2 (48 cp)

MATH291 – Advanced Engineering Mathematics (3 cp)

CIVL201 – Computer Modelling in Civil Engineering (6 cp)

STAT291 – Engineering Statistics (3 cp)

Block outcome: UOWD Year 2 completed (48 cp) → recognise the corresponding Civil Engineering Year 2 stage (48 cp). No individual MATH291/STAT291-to-MATH283 adjudication is required.

For the 3+1 pathway, UOWD fixes eight 6-credit-point subjects in its Year 3 Civil Engineering block, while UOW Australia's Year 3 structure contains 36 credit points of named core plus 12 credit points of approved electives — again, different packagings within the same disciplinary stage.

Block outcome: UOWD Year 3 completed (48 cp) → recognise the corresponding Civil Engineering Year 3 stage (48 cp). The student proceeds to the remaining final-year requirements at UOW Australia.

UAE Regulatory Subjects and Academic Calendar Alignment

UOWD students may undertake additional subjects to satisfy UAE regulatory or local requirements. These subjects are not required for eligibility for the UOW Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree and are excluded from the block-credit calculation and transfer eligibility assessment — no UOW Australia equivalent needs to be identified for them.

The principal operational risk in a transfer is not curriculum equivalence but the offset between UOWD's academic calendar and UOW Australia's Autumn/Spring session structure. A viable transfer therefore requires both (a) completion of the approved curriculum block and (b) a compatible receiving session at UOW Australia — determined by whether the next stage can commence in Autumn or Spring without violating prerequisite or annual-subject sequencing. Where useful, an approved Summer subject, elective, or other structured activity may be used to reduce an otherwise unproductive calendar gap.

Approval Statement

Students transferring from the UOWD Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) to the corresponding UOW Australia Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) may be granted block recognition for successfully completed UOW Engineering curriculum stages at UOWD: 48 credit points after Year 1, 96 credit points after Years 1–2, or 144 credit points after Years 1–3. The subject schedules listed for each stage document the completed curriculum block and are not intended to constitute separate subject-by-subject equivalence decisions. Transfer remains subject to admission, the applicable course structure, satisfactory completion of prerequisite stages, and the availability of a coherent receiving-session study plan at UOW Australia.

Students commencing the Bachelor of Computer Science at UOW Dubai may transfer to the corresponding Bachelor of Computer Science at UOW Australia after completion of the first 48 or 96 credit points of the degree curriculum. The Bachelor of Computer Science is a three-year, 144 credit point degree at both locations.

First-Stage Block (1+2 Pathway)

The current UOWD first-stage structure consists of seven named Computer Science core subjects and one 6 credit point elective. UOW Australia's first-year guidance identifies the same seven subjects and a further CSIT226/elective position.

Second-Stage Block (2+1 Pathway)

The UOWD curriculum after the first 48 credit points includes the principal second-stage Computer Science core. The corresponding UOW Australia degree contains the same disciplinary core, together with elective and/or major study. Minor differences in subject code, naming, semester placement or packaging do not alter the block-credit rationale.

Block outcome: the second 48 cp completed at UOWD is recognised as the corresponding second-stage curriculum (48 cp). Combined with the first-stage block, the transfer outcome is 96 cp.

Emirati Studies and Academic Calendar Alignment

UOWD requires students to complete 6 credit points in Emirati Studies within the 144 credit point Bachelor of Computer Science curriculum. Where this subject occupies approved elective space within the UOWD degree, it is recognised as satisfying 6 credit points of UOW Australia elective space — this is recognition of curricular function, not an assertion of disciplinary subject equivalence.

UOWD admits Bachelor of Computer Science students in September, January and April, while UOW Australia principally structures delivery around Autumn and Spring sessions. Transfer eligibility should therefore be defined by curriculum stage completed rather than elapsed calendar time, provided the receiving study plan preserves prerequisite sequencing for the student's remaining core and major subjects. Particular attention is needed for CSIT321 Project, a 12 cp final-stage capstone delivered over an extended/annual study pattern.

Major-Specific Block Credit Register

UOWD currently offers the Bachelor of Computer Science with majors in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Cyber Security, and Game and Mobile Development — all of which also exist within the UOW Australia curriculum.

Approval Statement

Students transferring from the UOWD Bachelor of Computer Science to the UOW Australia Bachelor of Computer Science may be granted block recognition for successfully completed curriculum stages at UOWD: 48 credit points after completion of the first curriculum stage, or 96 credit points after completion of the first two curriculum stages. The subject schedules listed for each stage document the completed curriculum block and are not intended to constitute separate subject-by-subject equivalence decisions. Where a UOWD local subject such as Emirati Studies occupies approved elective space, it may be recognised as elective credit within the block. Transfer remains subject to admission, the applicable course structure, satisfactory completion of prerequisite stages, preservation of the student's major trajectory where applicable, and the availability of a coherent receiving-session study plan at UOW Australia.
