IFIS Committee Member

Activity overview

How is this program run?

This program will be returning later in 2022.

What will I do?

The Illawarra Friends of International Students (IFIS) exists to offer support and community connections to international students and their families while they are studying in Wollongong. The committee consists of international and domestic students as well as community members, who in partnership with UOW, plan, organise and run a broad range of activities and programs throughout the year. As a committee member you will be attending monthly committee meetings and be involved in discussions about the type and scope of events and programs offered. You will contribute ideas and suggestions and actively engage in planning, organising and running programs and events.

How will I benefit?

By being involved you will:

  • get first hand experience of committee procedures
  • develop interpersonal skills - working in a multicultural environment with a range of different stakeholders
  • work towards a tight budget and within set deadlines
  • gain event management experience through plan, organise and run a range of events and activities for a large number of students and their families
  • enhance the international student experience at the University of Wollongong

How do I apply?

If you are interested in joining the IFIS Committee please contact the International Student Program Coordinator via student-programs@uow.edu.au or discuss your intentions with the committee directly.

Are there any special requirements for this role?

We strongly encourage you to attend a number of IFIS supported events and activities to meet current committee members and get a feel for what the group is about. A list of events and activities can be found on the International Student Programs (ISP) website.
